Totem Of Immortality

Quickstart

1. Smelt Iron Ingots in a blast furnace to make Steel.
2. Craft 8 Emeralds into a Soul Emerald.
3. Craft Steel into Bedrock.
4. Combine Bedrock and your Soul Emerald into the Totem of Immortality.
5. Hold the totem in your main hand or offhand, and simply carry it with you — when you would otherwise die, it triggers automatically and saves your life, just like a vanilla Totem of Undying.

All the crafting recipes for this mod are automatically unlocked as soon as you join the world, so you don't need to discover them manually.

Overview

The Totem of Immortality is a rare, glowing trinket item that replaces the need for a vanilla Totem of Undying. It is tougher to obtain, but far more powerful: unlike its vanilla counterpart, it is never consumed when it saves you. Keep it in your inventory (main hand or offhand) and it will protect you from death over and over again, indefinitely.

Steel is produced by blasting Iron Ingots in a blast furnace:

Steel can then be shaped into Bedrock:

Emeralds can be arranged into a Soul Emerald:

Finally, Bedrock and a Soul Emerald combine into the Totem of Immortality itself:

Abilities And Mechanics

• Never Breaks: Unlike a normal Totem of Undying, using the Totem of Immortality does not consume or destroy it. It stays in your inventory forever, ready to save you again.
• Death Prevention: When you would take fatal damage while holding the totem in either hand, it activates automatically:
  • Restores your health to a small amount so you survive.
  • Clears negative status effects.
  • Grants Regeneration, Absorption, and Fire Resistance for a short time.
  • Plays the classic totem activation animation and effect.
• Always Glinting: The totem always displays an enchantment glint, marking it as a special and valuable item.
• Rarity: Both the Totem of Immortality and the Soul Emerald are flagged as rare/epic items, reflecting their power.

Progression And Strategy

Because the totem is never used up, obtaining even a single one effectively grants permanent death protection for the rest of the game — you never need to craft a second one. Focus your early efforts on gathering enough Iron and Emeralds to complete the crafting chain (Steel → Bedrock, and Emeralds → Soul Emerald) once, then combine them into your totem. After that, simply keep it on your person (main hand or offhand) at all times for constant protection against fatal damage.
