Stormbound Backlash

Quickstart

1. Obtain the sword from the Creative inventory under Equipment, or use: /give @s com_stormbound_backlash_xohkxwpc:my_sword
2. Equip it in your main hand.
3. Attack an entity to unleash a thunderstorm centered on you.
4. Use the sword’s Use button to throw it forward.
5. Be careful around monsters: a nearby monster with an empty main hand can pick up the thrown sword and wield it against you.

Walk over the thrown item to retrieve it before a monster reaches it.

Overview

Stormbound Backlash is a powerful, cursed sword. Every successful hit creates a localized storm with multiple lightning strikes, but the sword resists its wielder. If the wielder is attacked, the curse can transfer the sword to the attacker and destroy the former wielder.

What It Adds

The sword can be enchanted using sword enchantments.

How To Use

Unleash a Storm

Attack an entity while holding Stormbound Backlash. A thunderstorm begins in the current dimension for 30 seconds, and lightning strikes are summoned:

• At the wielder’s position
• Four blocks diagonally in one direction
• Four blocks diagonally in the opposite direction

The storm is centered on the attacker, so stand clear of dangerous terrain and expect lightning near yourself as well as your target.

Throw the Sword

Press the sword’s Use button while holding it. The sword leaves your hand and is thrown slightly forward with an upward impulse.

A thrown sword remains available as a normal dropped item. Pick it up yourself, or let the curse decide who claims it.

Let a Monster Claim It

A monster within about 1.75 blocks of the thrown sword can pick it up if its main hand is empty. The monster equips Stormbound Backlash in its main hand and can then use its storm attack when it hits another entity.

A monster that is already holding something in its main hand will not claim the sword.

Craft Stormbound Backlash at a crafting table using lightning rods, nether stars, a diamond sword, and an echo shard:

Abilities And Mechanics

Backlash Against the Wielder

When an entity attacks a creature holding Stormbound Backlash in its main hand:

• The sword transfers to the attacker if the attacker can equip it.
• The former wielder receives 10,000,000 damage, which is normally fatal.
• The attacker receives 1 damage.

This makes direct combat against another sword wielder extremely dangerous. The curse can also activate when a monster holding the sword is attacked by a player or another entity.

The Former Wielder Cannot Simply Reclaim It

If a monster picks up a sword that you threw, attacking that monster yourself does not safely return the sword. Your attack deals only 1 net damage and does not trigger a transfer back to you.

Use another attacker to strike the sword-wielding monster if you need to force the curse to move the sword elsewhere.

Durability

The sword has 203 maximum durability. Its durability damage chance ranges from 50% to 100% when durability is consumed.

Progression And Strategy

Stormbound Backlash has no separate levels or upgrade path. Its challenge comes from managing the sword’s power and curse.

• Use it against groups of enemies when the surrounding area can withstand lightning.
• Avoid throwing it near monsters unless you are prepared for one to claim it.
• Fight in open areas where the summoned lightning is easier to observe.
• If an enemy takes the sword, do not attack it directly if you are the former wielder.
• Keep a safe route for retreat, since the storm and backlash damage can make close combat hazardous.
• Retrieve the sword quickly after throwing it before a monster with an empty main hand reaches it.
