Quickstart

1. Find a Death Note in a village chest, or—if cheats are enabled—get one with:

   /give @s shinigami-black-ledger-4cvpamza:death_note
   

2. Hold the note and use it to open its pages. Enter a victim, a listed cause, and a delay in seconds, separated by commas; press Enter to submit. The delay must be at least 40 seconds.
3. Use an exact Minecraft username for a player, or a villager’s true name. Right-clicking a villager may reveal their name, but their answer can be false or withheld. For a reliable way to see villager names and lifespans, use the Eye Deal in the rules screen; it costs a Shinigami Apple and halves your maximum health.
4. Use the left and right arrow keys to browse entries and Escape to close the note.

Overview

The Death Note lets you schedule a chosen cause of death for a living player or villager in your world. Finding names, choosing a cause and delay, and avoiding the attention of investigators are all part of using it.

How To Use the Death Note

Write entries in this format:

name, cause, time in seconds

The cause must match one of these names exactly:

Heart Attack, Zombie Attack in the Night, Falling from a Roof, Drowning, Road Accident, Spontaneous Combustion, Lightning Strike, Suicide, Creeper Explosion, Poisoning, Anaphylactic Shock, Asphyxiation, Falling Anvil, Warden Attack, Internal Bleeding.

Press Enter to validate and write the entry. Its timer starts when you submit it. The selected effect triggers when the delay expires; some causes use hazards or damage over time rather than an immediate hit. The target must still be alive and in the same world when it triggers.

Entries are recorded as pages in the note. Use the arrow keys or click the sides of the book to browse them. Press G while reading to view the rules. N (default) displays your secret identity; to target another player, use their exact Minecraft username.

Crafting and Obtaining

The Death Note has no crafting recipe. Village chests have a 16% chance to contain one.

Shinigami Apples can be found in a Shinigami Hut, which may appear deep beneath the Overworld. Its chest contains two apples. If you have permission to use commands, /shinigami_hut can create a hut nearby when the surrounding area is suitable. For testing, you can also use:

Abilities and Mechanics

Eye Deal: Carry a Death Note and a Shinigami Apple, then open the rules screen with G and choose Eye Deal. The apple is consumed, your maximum health is halved, and villagers’ true names and remaining lifespans become visible above them. A further Eye Deal costs another apple and halves your maximum health again.

Give Up Note: Choose Give Up Note in the rules screen to surrender the note and end the Eye Deal. The lost maximum health does not return.

Investigation: Writing entries raises evidence against you. Carrying the note near villagers can draw suspicion, and villagers nearby may show suspicion bars. Over time, an investigator called L may emerge and organize villagers into a task force.

You can try bribing a villager by dropping an emerald nearby while you stay close. The emerald is consumed; an accepting villager may lower evidence and stop cooperating with the investigation for a while, while a refusal adds evidence.

Progression and Strategy

Learn a villager’s true name before writing an entry; an ordinary name request is not always trustworthy. An Eye Deal reveals names reliably, but consider its health cost first. Keep the note out of your hands near villagers, and remember that each submitted entry increases evidence.
