Shelled Scuttler

Quickstart

1. Find a Scuttler around coral blocks, or spawn one with the Shelled Scuttler Spawn Egg in Creative.
2. Interact with a Scuttler while holding an item other than kelp, dried kelp, or seagrass to pick it up. You receive a Horseshoe Crab carrier, shown as a named nautilus shell.
3. Use the carrier on a block, or use it while looking where you want the Scuttler to appear.
4. Try feeding it dried kelp while it is beside dry sand to watch it dig up a random item.

Overview

The Shelled Scuttler is a small, friendly horseshoe crab that can walk and swim. It nudges nearby monsters away and can forage in dry sand when fed dried kelp.

What It Adds

• A horseshoe crab mob that can spawn in groups of one or two on coral blocks, including dead coral blocks.
• A spawn egg for placing Scuttlers in Creative.
• A carrier item for picking up and relocating Scuttlers.
• Monster-repelling, sand-foraging, and breeding interactions.

How To Use

Interact with a Scuttler with an empty hand or most items to pick it up. Its carrier is a nautilus shell named Horseshoe Crab; use that shell to place the Scuttler again. Ordinary nautilus shells do not work as carriers.

Scuttlers breathe both air and water, so you can keep them on land or underwater. They wander on their own and do not need to be carried between locations.

Crafting And Obtaining

Scuttlers can appear naturally on coral blocks, both underwater and at the surface. In Creative, use the Shelled Scuttler Spawn Egg. Picking up a Scuttler gives you its carrier; there is no crafting recipe for the mob or carrier.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Repels monsters: Nearby monsters are pushed away from the Scuttler, out to roughly seven blocks. This does not damage them.
• Forages in sand: Feed it dried kelp while it is out of water and within reach of dry sand. It digs and may uncover prismarine shards or crystals, iron or gold nuggets, emeralds, diamonds, sand, flint, saplings, azaleas, or a fishing rod. A fishing rod reward can sometimes have a level-one enchantment. Dried kelp is consumed even if no suitable sand is nearby.
• Breeds: Feed kelp to two adults within eight blocks of each other. Feed both within about 30 seconds; they must also be out of their breeding cooldown. A baby is born when both are ready.
• Grows up: Feed a baby seagrass to make it grow into an adult.

Progression And Strategy

Keep a pair of adults close together and feed each kelp in quick succession to breed them. For reliable foraging, bring the Scuttler to dry sand before using dried kelp. Keep one nearby if you want its monster-repelling effect around a camp or base.
