Description
Create an add-on with the following details:1. Create an entity called Obsidian Comet (mymod:obsidian_comet), a meteor entity measuring 3x3 blocks. It should have a purplish-black appearance with very few white specks. 2. Create a block named ‘Star Obsidian Block’ (mymod:star_obsidian_block) [full block geometry] and ‘Crystalized Star Obsidian’ (mymod:crystalized_star_obsidian) [amethyst crystal-shaped geometry], with the characteristic dark appearance of obsidian and the star-shaped void spots typical of End Portals. 3. Create a block named ‘Crystalized Obsidian Fragment’ (mymod:crystalized_obsidian_fragment) with the characteristic dark appearance of obsidian and using the amethyst crystal-shaped geometry 4. Create an item called Star Obsidian Shard (mymod:star_obsidian_shard) which drops when a Crystalized Star Obsidian block is destroyed; 2 to 5 items may drop 5. Create an item called ‘Obsidian Shard’ (mymod:obsidian_shard) which will be dropped when a ‘Crystalized Obsidian Fragment’ block is destroyed; 2 to 5 items may be dropped Obsidian Comet Entity Mechanics 1. The Obsidian Comet only appears in the vanilla Minecraft End dimension. It has a random tick spawn mechanism with a 20% spawn chance. 2. Upon spawning, the Obsidian Comet appears from the sky, falling like a comet, crashes into the ground and causes an explosion three times the power of TNT. 3. After the explosion, at the centre of the crater there will be several Star Obsidian blocks and Crystalized Star Obsidian blocks. 4. Around the crater, there will also be between one and four Crystalized Obsidian Fragments.
Mod Wiki
Obsidian Cometfall
Quickstart
- Travel to the End and keep an open view of the sky.
- Wait for an Obsidian Comet to appear overhead. Comets are checked for about once per second, with a 20% chance for each eligible player.
- Move away when you see one. It falls from the sky and detonates when it reaches solid terrain.
- Search the Creative inventory for the mod’s blocks and items if you want to experiment immediately. Place the blocks like ordinary Minecraft blocks.
- After a crash, mine the crystal-shaped blocks with a pickaxe to collect shards. Bring the shards to a crafting table to create more comet materials.
Overview
Obsidian Cometfall brings dangerous meteor impacts to the End. Each impact creates a powerful crater surrounded by dark, star-speckled obsidian materials.
The comet is a large, purplish-black meteor with a mostly dark surface and sparse white specks. Its impact produces a compact deposit of rare blocks and crystalized fragments.
What It Adds
| Content | Description |
|---|---|
| Obsidian Comet | A 3×3-block meteor that falls from the sky and explodes in the End |
| Star Obsidian Block | A full-size, extremely durable obsidian block with star-like void markings |
| Crystalized Star Obsidian | A dark, amethyst-shaped crystal containing star-like markings |
| Crystalized Obsidian Fragment | A dark obsidian crystal with amethyst-shaped geometry |
| Star Obsidian Shard | Drops from Crystalized Star Obsidian and is used in crafting |
| Obsidian Shard | Drops from Crystalized Obsidian Fragment and is used in crafting |
How To Use
Finding a Comet
Obsidian Comets appear naturally only in the End. They do not appear in the Overworld or Nether.
When a comet check succeeds, the comet appears a short distance away from a player in the End and begins falling from above. Only one comet can be active within roughly 64 blocks of a player, so move through different areas if you want to search for more impacts.
Surviving the Impact
A comet’s explosion has power 12—about three times the power of TNT. It breaks blocks but does not cause fire.
When you see a comet falling:
- Move well away from its landing point.
- Avoid standing directly beneath it.
- Do not build valuable structures near an active impact site.
- Return after the explosion to collect the materials.
Harvesting the Deposits
Each impact creates a central cluster containing:
- Several Star Obsidian Blocks
- Several Crystalized Star Obsidian blocks
- Between one and four Crystalized Obsidian Fragments around the crater
Use a pickaxe to mine the two crystal-shaped blocks. The Star Obsidian Block is much slower to mine and is intended as a highly durable building material.
Recoloring a Comet in Creative
In Creative mode, hold a dye and interact with an Obsidian Comet to change its color. Dyes can give it colors such as black, gray, white, purple, blue, red, green, yellow, orange, pink, brown, lime, cyan, light blue, silver, and magenta.
Crafting And Obtaining
Star Obsidian Shard
Mine Crystalized Star Obsidian to obtain 2–5 Star Obsidian Shards per block.
Obsidian Shard
Mine Crystalized Obsidian Fragment to obtain 2–5 Obsidian Shards per block.
Star Obsidian Block
Craft one Star Obsidian Block from nine Star Obsidian Shards.

Crystalized Star Obsidian
Craft one Crystalized Star Obsidian from one Star Obsidian Shard and four Amethyst Shards.

Crystalized Obsidian Fragment
Craft one Crystalized Obsidian Fragment from one Obsidian Shard and four Obsidian blocks.

All three recipes are made at a crafting table.
Abilities And Mechanics
Obsidian Comet
- Appears only in the End.
- Has 30 health.
- Measures 3×3 blocks.
- Falls from the sky toward solid terrain.
- Explodes on impact with power 12.
- Breaks blocks but does not create fire.
- Is immune to fire.
- Drops 0–1 Shulker Shell when defeated.
- Awards 5 experience when killed by a player.
Defeating a comet before it reaches the ground prevents its impact explosion and crater deposit.
Impact Deposit
The explosion is followed by a central material cluster. The Star Obsidian Blocks and Crystalized Star Obsidian are placed at the impact center, while one to four Crystalized Obsidian Fragments are scattered approximately 4–6 blocks away around the crater.
Block Durability
The three blocks have different mining behavior:
- Star Obsidian Block: Full-block shape, exceptionally slow to mine, and highly resistant to explosions.
- Crystalized Star Obsidian: Crystal-shaped, pickaxe-destructible, and drops Star Obsidian Shards.
- Crystalized Obsidian Fragment: Crystal-shaped, pickaxe-destructible, and drops Obsidian Shards.
For shard collection, mine the two crystal-shaped blocks rather than relying on the solid Star Obsidian Block.
Progression And Strategy
- Establish a safe observation area in the End with room to retreat.
- Watch the sky for falling comets and mark each crater after the explosion.
- Bring a pickaxe so you can harvest the crystal deposits efficiently.
- Use Star Obsidian Shards to craft Star Obsidian Blocks and Crystalized Star Obsidian.
- Use Obsidian Shards with ordinary Obsidian to craft Crystalized Obsidian Fragments.
- Reserve Star Obsidian Blocks for structures that need strong explosion resistance.
- Keep crater locations marked so you can return for additional shards or use the deposits as dark, star-speckled decorations.
