Netherite Plated Elytra

Quickstart

1. Craft the Netherite Plated Elytra at a Smithing Table using a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template, an Elytra, and a Netherite Ingot.
2. Right-click while holding it to instantly equip it in your chest slot.
3. Jump off a high point and jump again while falling to begin gliding — exactly like a standard elytra.
4. Use firework rockets to boost, keeping in mind the heavier plating reduces their thrust.

Overview

The Netherite Plated Elytra is a single chest-slot item that merges the freedom of elytra flight with the protective stats of netherite armor. You no longer have to choose between gliding and wearing a chestplate — this item does both at once.

What It Adds

The item appears in both the Combat and Tools creative inventory tabs.

How To Use

• Equipping: Right-click while holding the item to put it directly into your chest slot. You can also drag it into the chest slot in your inventory screen.
• Gliding: Once equipped, gliding works identically to a vanilla elytra — jump while airborne or falling to spread the wings and glide.
• Rocket Boosting: Firework rockets still provide a boost, but the weight of the netherite plating reduces horizontal acceleration by roughly 8% each boost tick. You can still travel long distances; just expect slightly less punch per rocket.
• Fire & Lava: Like all netherite equipment, the item itself is immune to fire and lava damage, and the wearer gains fire/lava damage resistance through the piece.
• Durability: The elytra takes damage during flight and when struck. Repair it at an Anvil with Phantom Membranes.

Upgrade a regular Elytra at a Smithing Table using the recipe below. The recipe is available as soon as you join a world.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Armor stats apply only while the item is in the chest slot.
• Gliding uses the same wing-spread model and animations as the vanilla elytra.
• Knockback resistance of 1.0 means you are fully immune to knockback while wearing it.
• Reduced rocket boost is intentional — the heavier plating makes firework thrust less effective than with a plain elytra.
• The item is fireproof, so it will never burn if dropped in lava or fire.

Progression And Strategy

• Craft this after obtaining a regular Elytra and reaching late-game Netherite tier — it requires a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template and a Netherite Ingot.
• Replace your netherite chestplate with this to keep strong chest protection without sacrificing the ability to fly, ideal for exploration or PvP servers where aerial mobility matters.
• Pair with high-level Protection and Unbreaking enchantments (applied via Anvil) to maximize both defense and durability.
• Because rocket boost is slightly dampened, consider carrying more rockets per journey than you normally would, or supplement with Riptide tridents for burst speed.
