    Description:

The Flashlight is a handheld directional light that casts a beam for about 5 blocks where you are looking; right-click toggles it on or off, and an action-bar message confirms the change. While on it consumes battery charge over time and the beam gradually dims as charge runs out, with a color-coded battery meter appearing in the top-right when the flashlight is held. To recharge, hold a Battery item and right-click to instantly refill the flashlight using the lowest-charge battery; batteries stack up to 16, and batteries can now be crafted from an iron ingot, a lightning rod, and redstone.

    Flashlight

    Quickstart

    1. Craft a Flashlight and at least one Battery (see recipes below).
    2. Hold the Flashlight in either hand and right-click to turn it on — you'll hear a click and see "Flashlight ON" above your hotbar.
    3. The beam lights up the air block you're looking at, up to 5 blocks ahead. Aim around to move the light.
    4. When the battery runs low, hold a Battery item and right-click to instantly recharge your flashlight to full.

    Overview

Flashlight adds two items — a Flashlight and a Battery — giving you a portable, directional light source that illuminates exactly where you're looking. Unlike torches or lanterns, the beam travels with your gaze and dims naturally as the battery drains, rewarding you for keeping a supply of batteries on hand.

    What It Adds

    ItemStack SizeDescription
    Flashlight1Handheld directional light; toggles on/off with right-click
Battery16Recharges a flashlight to full; right-click while holding

Both items appear in the Tools creative tab.

    How To Use

Turning the Flashlight On and Off

Hold the Flashlight in your main hand or off-hand and right-click. An action-bar message confirms the new state ("Flashlight ON" or "Flashlight OFF") and a click sound plays. If the battery is completely dead the flashlight cannot be turned on until recharged.

    The Beam

While active, the mod places a light source on the nearest air block in the direction you're looking, up to 5 blocks away. The light updates as you move and aim. When you turn the flashlight off — or swap it out — the light is removed.

    Battery Drain and Dimming

The flashlight consumes charge continuously while on. As charge depletes, the beam gradually dims (light level scales from 15 down to 1). When the charge hits zero the flashlight turns itself off and you'll see a "Flashlight battery died!" message. The flashlight starts fully charged when first crafted.

    Battery HUD

Whenever you're holding the Flashlight (in either hand), a battery meter appears in the top-right corner of your screen showing:

    • Battery percentage (color-coded: green → yellow → orange → red)
    • ON / OFF status
    • A small fill bar

The tooltip on the Flashlight item also shows your current battery percentage and status.

    Glint

An active (on) flashlight displays an enchantment glint, making it easy to spot in your inventory at a glance.

    Crafting And Obtaining

Craft a Flashlight from a glass pane and two iron ingots:

Craft a Battery from an iron ingot, a lightning rod, and redstone:

Batteries stack up to 16, so you can carry a healthy supply without filling your inventory.

    Abilities And Mechanics

    MechanicDetail
Beam rangeUp to 5 blocks in the direction you're looking
Light level1–15, scaling with remaining battery charge
Battery drainLoses 10 charge every 3 seconds (60 ticks) while on
Max battery1000 units (shown as 0–100% in the HUD)
RechargingHold a Battery, right-click → fills the lowest-charge flashlight in your inventory to 100%; consumes one battery

    Progression And Strategy

    • Craft several batteries early. Each battery fully restores the flashlight, but you'll burn through charge during long cave sessions. Stacking up to 16 batteries per slot makes them easy to stockpile.
    • Use the off-hand. Holding the Flashlight in your off-hand keeps your main hand free for tools and weapons while the beam stays active.
    • Watch the HUD color. Green means you're fine; yellow is a warning to seek materials; red means recharge soon or the light will die mid-dungeon.
    • The beam only lights air blocks. Pointing directly at a solid wall won't project light past it — use that to your advantage by aiming just past corners to scout ahead safely.
