Crimson Dragon Aegis
Quickstart
- On your first spawn, you receive a Basic Shield. Equip it in either hand and hold Use to block. Keep it in your hand or offhand to build Aegis energy over time.
- Craft and use an Aegis Chronicle to open the action menu and check your level, energy, shield forms, and available abilities:

- Select an action in the Chronicle and confirm. Try Shield Bash or Energy Guard first; both are available at level 1, but need energy. Defeating hostile mobs earns XP, while energy recharges gradually as you carry an Aegis shield.
- Use Evolve Shield in the Chronicle to unlock stronger forms. Each new form has a level requirement and consumes materials; you must equip the unlocked shield to benefit from it.
Overview
Crimson Dragon Aegis is a shield-focused adventure with seven evolving shield forms, energy-powered abilities, and a dragon boss to summon. The Chronicle is your hub for checking progression, evolving shields and weapons, and activating techniques. As your level and shield tier rise, you gain stronger defensive effects and access to attacks that culminate in a dragon-shaped inferno.
What It Adds
- Seven shields: Basic, Iron, Beast, Dragon, Spirit, Demon Dragon, and Crimson Dragon Aegis.
- The Aegis Chronicle: A menu for progression, evolution, and abilities.
- Legendary weapons: Seven tiers each of sword, spear, and bow.
- Adventure items: A Crimson Wyrm Sigil, Riftbound Portal Key, Dragon Charm, Crimson Hero armor, and upgrade materials.
- Mentors and a boss: Four hero mentors offer training and hunts; the Crimson Wyrm can be summoned with its sigil.
How To Use
Blocking and energy
Use an Aegis shield like a normal shield: hold Use to raise it and block incoming attacks. Shields can be held in the offhand. Carrying one in either hand also restores energy over time; higher forms recharge it faster.
The shields provide increasingly strong defensive effects. Higher forms add effects such as fire resistance, periodic regeneration, and Strength while sneaking. The Crimson Dragon Aegis is the final form and has the highest durability and fastest energy recharge.
Chronicle abilities
Use the Chronicle, choose an action from its menu, and confirm. Aim toward your intended target for forward-facing attacks. Abilities consume energy, and some also have cooldowns or require a particular shield and level.
| Ability | Requirement | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Shield Bash | Level 1; 14 energy | Strikes a target in front of you. 2-second cooldown. |
| Energy Guard | Level 1; 22 energy | Raises a temporary barrier for 6 seconds. 11-second cooldown. |
| Counterattack | Iron Shield; level 2; 18 energy | Arms a counter to release stored energy on the next hit. |
| Aegis Projectile | Beast Shield; level 5; 26 energy | Fires a blast. 10-second cooldown. |
| Dragon Breath | Dragon Shield; level 10; 32 energy | Sends a dragon-fire attack forward. 13-second cooldown. |
| Life Drain | Spirit Shield; level 15; 20 energy | Drains life with capped healing. 20-second cooldown. |
| Crimson Nova | Demon Dragon Shield; level 22; 45 energy | Unleashes a powerful area attack. 18-second cooldown. |
| Rage Mode | Demon Dragon Shield; level 22; 30 energy and 4 health | A temporary 30-second surge. |
| Curse Rage I / II | Demon Dragon Shield; level 22 | Costly surges that also spend health and leave a weakness backlash. |
| Ultimate Dragon Burst | Crimson Dragon Aegis; level 30; 100 energy | The ultimate dragon attack. 60-second cooldown. |
The Chronicle also has Absorb Material, which exchanges a carried upgrade material for XP and energy, and actions for evolving your shield or legendary weapons.
Shield progression
Choose Evolve Shield in the Chronicle when you meet the level and material requirements. Evolution consumes the listed materials and unlocks a new shield; equip that form to use its tier benefits.
| Shield form | Level | Evolution cost |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Shield | 1 | Starting form |
| Iron Shield | 2 | 2 Beast Cores |
| Beast Shield | 5 | 3 Beast Cores |
| Dragon Shield | 10 | 2 Dragon Scales |
| Spirit Shield | 15 | 3 Spirit Essences |
| Demon Dragon Shield | 22 | 5 Dragon Scales and 2 Spirit Essences |
| Crimson Dragon Aegis | 30 | 10 Dragon Scales, 5 Spirit Essences, and 3 Dragon Boss Trophies |
Crafting And Obtaining
The Basic Shield is granted on first spawn. You can also craft one:

Craft the Chronicle at a crafting table:

Other crafting-table recipes include:
- Moonsteel Ingots are used for legendary weapons and hero armor. One recipe yields four:
- Crimson Hero armor: helmet, cuirass, leggings, and boots.
- Tier I legendary weapons: sword, spear, and bow.
- Basic Aegis Ammo: the recipe yields 16: .
Bow and spear ammo recipes each yield 16. Craft ammo matching your weapon’s tier:
| Tier | Bow ammo | Spear ammo |
|---|---|---|
| I | ||
| II | ||
| III | ||
| IV | ||
| V | ||
| VI | ||
| VII |
Higher-tier legendary weapons are unlocked through the Chronicle’s Evolve Sword, Evolve Spear, or Evolve Bow actions rather than crafted as separate recipes. They share the same level steps: 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, 22, and 30. Later evolutions require Beast Cores, Moonsteel Ingots, Dragon Scales, Spirit Essences, Crimson Dragon Cores, or Dragon Boss Trophies.
Summons and other items
- Craft a Crimson Wyrm Sigil from Nether Stars, Dragon Scales, and a Dragon Boss Trophy: . Use it to summon the Crimson Wyrm ahead of you. The sigil is consumed, and a Wyrm already within 48 blocks prevents another nearby summon.
- Defeat bosses for Dragon Boss Trophies. The Crimson Wyrm also awards a Crimson Dragon Core when defeated; the Ender Dragon and Wither award Dragon Scales. Other hostile mobs can yield Beast Cores, while certain powerful mobs may drop scales or Spirit Essences.
- Craft and use a Riftbound Portal Key to choose and summon one of the four hero mentors. The key is consumed when a mentor answers:
- Craft and use a Crimson Dragon Charm for 15 seconds of Strength and Fire Resistance. It has a 60-second cooldown:
Progression And Strategy
Defeat hostile mobs to earn Aegis XP and collect materials for evolution. Bosses are especially valuable: their trophies are needed for the final shield and top weapon tiers. Save scarce scales, essences, and trophies for the forms you want to unlock, and use material absorption when you need an extra boost of XP or energy.
Legendary weapons have their own evolution track. Use the Chronicle to advance a weapon you carry, then activate its matching technique from the menu. The seven forms of each weapon unlock in step with your Aegis level.
Interact with a summoned mentor to open their training menu. Naofumi focuses on shield training, Ren on swords, Motoyasu on spears, and Itsuki on bows. Each offers training and a hunt to defeat three hostile foes.
