Creeper Guardian

Quickstart

1. Find a Creeper Guardian on the surface in a monster-spawning biome, or use a Creeper Guardian Spawn Egg from the Creative inventory.
2. Hold gunpowder and interact with an untamed Guardian to tame it. One gunpowder is enough.
3. Bring it near hostile mobs and watch it defend you. Its blasts do not break blocks or start fires.

Overview

Creeper Guardian adds a powerful creeper ally that follows its owner and fights hostile monsters. It can also be tamed, become supercharged, and produce a smaller Guardian when paired with another.

What It Adds

• Creeper Guardian: A creeper that targets hostile monsters rather than players.
• Creeper Guardian Spawn Egg: Spawns a Guardian when used.

How To Use

After taming, the Guardian follows you and helps fight monsters. It also comes to your aid when you attack a monster or one attacks you. If you get far ahead, it can catch up by teleporting to you.

When a hostile gets close, the Guardian can blast it. The blast damages nearby entities, but does not damage blocks or cause fire.

Crafting And Obtaining

There is no crafting recipe for the Guardian or its spawn egg. Guardians can spawn naturally on the surface in monster-spawning biomes on Easy, Normal, or Hard difficulty; they are uncommon. In Creative, use the spawn egg to bring one into the world.

When killed, a Guardian can drop up to 3 gunpowder. If killed by a skeleton, stray, or bogged, it can also drop a music disc.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Combat: Guardians seek out visible hostile monsters nearby and can attack them up close. Their blasts are triggered by a nearby hostile; a normal Guardian’s blast has a smaller radius than a supercharged one.
• Protection: A tamed Guardian takes half damage. A tamed, supercharged Guardian takes 60% less damage.
• Healing: After combat, a Guardian can recover health when no hostile monsters are nearby. If its owner is at 20% health or less, it periodically restores some of the owner’s health.
• Supercharging: If lightning strikes an entity within 24 blocks of a player at 20% health or less, nearby Guardians become supercharged. Their blasts have a larger radius.
• Pairing: Two adult Guardians can automatically produce a smaller baby Guardian when they are close together, as long as at least one is tamed. Each pair can produce a baby only once.
• Tamed Guardian recovery: If a tamed Guardian dies, it returns after a short delay near where it fell.

Progression And Strategy

Tame a Guardian early with gunpowder, then keep it close while exploring or defending your home. Its blasts are safest to use around buildings because they do not break blocks, but keep other nearby entities clear of the blast area. For a stronger defender, let lightning charge it when you are in danger.
