Cave Glow Marker

Quickstart

1. Craft a Cave Glow Marker using the recipe below.
2. Head into any dark cave with some markers in your inventory (up to 25 stack in one slot).
3. Press Q (default drop key) to toss a marker on the ground — it instantly emits a maximum-brightness glow right where it lands.
4. Walk over it to pick it up; the light vanishes immediately as it returns to your inventory.

Overview

The Cave Glow Marker is a reusable, portable light source designed for cave exploration. Rather than placing torches or carrying a lantern, you drop a marker on the ground to flood the surrounding area with bright light. Because the light disappears the moment you pick the marker back up, your world stays clean — no leftover light sources cluttering your mine.

What It Adds

The item has a subtle enchantment glint and shows two tooltip lines when hovered:

• "Drop to illuminate nearby area"
• "Emits a bright glow when on the ground"

How To Use

Placing light: Drop one or more Cave Glow Markers (default Q) anywhere on the ground. Each dropped marker immediately creates a level-15 light source — the brightest possible in Minecraft — at the block where it lands. If the marker slides or bounces to a new block, the light moves with it.

Removing light: Simply walk over a marker to pick it up. The light block is removed the instant the marker leaves the ground, leaving no trace behind.

Multiple markers: Because you can carry 25 per slot, you can scatter several markers ahead of you to illuminate a large area, then collect them on your way back out.

Crafting And Obtaining

The recipe is unlocked automatically when you join a world. Craft the marker using glowstone dust, a glass bottle, and a stick:

Abilities And Mechanics

• Max brightness: Dropped markers emit light level 15, eliminating all mob spawning in the lit area.
• Auto-cleanup: Picking up a marker immediately removes the light it placed. Markers that are removed from the world (e.g., despawned or voided) also clean up their light automatically.
• Air-only placement: The light block only appears if the space the marker occupies is open air, so markers resting inside solid blocks won't create stray lights.
• No permanent placement: Cave Glow Markers cannot be permanently placed like torches; they are always held or dropped as items.

Progression And Strategy

• Early exploration: Craft a stack of markers before your first deep cave dive. Drop them liberally at intersections and dark pockets, then gather them up as you backtrack.
• Mining sessions: Drop a marker at your feet while you mine a vein so you can see clearly without stopping to place torches.
• Mob management: A handful of dropped markers can keep a staging area fully lit while you work, since level-15 light prevents hostile mob spawning entirely.
• Inventory efficiency: With 25 per slot, a single inventory slot provides extensive coverage for long expeditions, freeing other slots for loot and tools.
