Carved Box Bed

Quickstart

1. Craft a Carved Box Bed placer item using wool and planks.
2. Find (or build) a clear, solid 3×3×2 space — the bed needs open air above a solid floor to be placed.
3. Place the item like a normal block, facing the direction you want the bed to face.
4. Right-click/interact with the finished bed to sleep in it, just like a vanilla bed.
5. Break any part of the carved structure to remove the whole bed at once and get your placer item back.

Overview

Carved Box Bed turns a plain bed into a decorative, carved wooden enclosure without losing any real bed functionality. When placed, it builds a full 3×3×2 wooden frame around a genuine vanilla bed hidden inside, so you get normal sleeping, day-skipping, and respawn-point behavior, dressed up in ornate carved paneling.

Crafting And Obtaining

Craft the Carved Box Bed placer with wool across the top row and planks filling the bottom two rows:

Any wool color and any plank type work for the recipe.

How To Use

• Placing: Use the placer item on a solid, flat surface with enough open space (3 blocks wide, 3 blocks deep, 2 blocks tall) in front of you. The structure snaps together instantly and always faces the direction you were facing when you placed it.
  • If the space isn't clear and solid, placement fails and you'll be told you need more room.
• Sleeping: Interact with the carved structure to sleep, exactly like a normal bed. Sleeping sets your respawn point at the bed's location, works at night or during thunderstorms, and can skip to day if enough players are sleeping.
• Occupied beds: If someone else is already sleeping in the bed, you can't climb in until they wake up.
• Breaking: Breaking any single block of the carved structure removes the entire multiblock bed cleanly and drops the original placer item so you can move or replace it elsewhere. You can't be left with partial leftover pieces.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Atomic placement: The bed is built as a single complete structure — it either fully appears or not at all, so you never end up with a broken/partial frame.
• Real vanilla sleep: Because a genuine bed block powers the structure underneath the carving, all standard bed rules apply: respawn point setting, sleep validity checks, and monster-nearby sleep restrictions.
• Safe spawn points: Sleeping in the bed sets your world spawn to its location, the same as any vanilla bed.
• Directional facing: The carved shell automatically orients its paneling to match the direction the bed was placed, so it looks correct from any facing.

Progression And Strategy

Craft a few Carved Box Beds early on using common materials (wool and planks) to decorate builds while keeping full sleep functionality. Since placement requires a clear 3×3×2 footprint, plan bedroom spaces with enough clearance before crafting — tight corners or low ceilings will block placement. Because breaking the bed anywhere on its frame returns the placer item, it's easy to relocate a Carved Box Bed as your build evolves.
