Overview
Beacon Riftcaster adds a reusable Portal Gun for creating a pair of linked, travel-ready rifts. The portals appear as particle-framed openings without replacing or destroying the blocks they are attached to.
Linked portals can connect distant locations, including locations in different dimensions. Looking toward one portal lets you view the area around its linked destination before crossing.
What It Adds
Portal Gun
- Name: Portal Gun
- Maximum stack size: 1
- Durability: 512
- Functions as the portal-placement tool
- Can be enchanted using sword enchantment rules
- Can be held like an equipped weapon
Linked Portals
- Two portals form one linked pair.
- Each portal continuously displays a visible particle frame and shimmering interior.
- Entering either portal sends you to the other.
- Portals do not remove, replace, or permanently modify blocks.
- The exit is placed just beyond the destination portal, facing away from its surface.
How To Use
Place a Portal
Hold the Portal Gun, aim at a block within 16 blocks, and use the item.
- Use the top face of a block to create a ground portal.
- Use a side face to create a wall portal.
- The bottom face cannot hold a portal.
- Aim directly at a block; using the gun without a block in view does not place an anchor.
The Portal Gun places the anchor at a stable player-friendly height on walls, so aim at the wall section where you want the portal to appear. Ground portals are placed just above the block surface.
Link Two Portals
Place one portal, then aim at another suitable block and use the Portal Gun again. The second anchor immediately links to the first.
You can travel in both directions by entering either rift.
Replace a Portal Pair
Only one linked pair is active at a time. After two portals exist, placing a third portal clears the previous pair and starts a new one. Place the next anchor, then place another to create the new connection.
Travel Through a Rift
Walk into the visible opening of either linked portal. The Portal Gun teleports you to the matching portal and briefly prevents an immediate return teleport, avoiding accidental back-and-forth movement.
Look Through a Portal
With two portals linked, face one of them from within viewing range. The opening shows a live view of the area around the destination portal. Turn your view while looking through the rift to change what you see remotely.
The live view works when the portal is in front of you and within roughly 12 blocks. Moving away or looking away restores your normal view.
Crafting And Obtaining

- 2 iron blocks
- 1 chain
- 1 beacon

Abilities And Mechanics
Ground And Wall Portals
Ground portals lie horizontally on top of blocks. Wall portals attach vertically to the side of a block. Both types can be used for teleportation and live destination viewing.
Cross-Dimension Travel
The two anchors retain their own locations and dimensions. Place one portal in one dimension and the other in another dimension to create an instant cross-dimension route.
Visible Rift Effects
Active portals are marked by animated particles around their edges and across the opening. These effects help you locate the rifts without requiring a special block frame.
Item Durability
The Portal Gun has 512 durability and is not stackable. Keep an eye on its condition when using it frequently.
Progression And Strategy
- Place a portal near your base and another near a distant destination to create a fast travel route.
- Use a wall portal for controlled entry points in corridors, towers, and rooms.
- Use a ground portal for open areas or destinations where you want to step directly onto the rift.
- Look through the first portal before crossing to inspect the destination.
- Mark portal locations with surrounding blocks or lighting so the entrances remain easy to find.
- Remember that placing a third anchor replaces the existing pair, so establish both endpoints carefully.
