Quickstart

1. Travel to the Nether — all ores generate naturally, no crafting required.
2. Bring at least a stone pickaxe for common ores; a diamond pickaxe is required for Ancient Nether Star Ore.
3. Search for a faintly glowing block (light level 10) near patches of Ancient Debris — that is Ancient Nether Star Ore.
4. Mine it with a diamond or netherite pickaxe to receive a Nether Star, no Wither fight needed.
5. All ore blocks appear in the creative inventory under the Nether Ores item group.

Overview

Ancient Nether Star Ores adds eight ore blocks that generate throughout the Nether. Seven ores yield familiar resources such as coal, iron, and diamonds. The eighth — Ancient Nether Star Ore — is a rare, luminous, near-indestructible block that drops a Nether Star, letting you build Beacons without battling the Wither.

Ancient Nether Star Ore — Iron Pickaxe Penalty

Holding an iron pickaxe while mining Ancient Nether Star Ore reduces your breaking speed to roughly 15 % of normal. Always use a diamond or netherite pickaxe on this block.

Fortune and Silk Touch

Fortune increases yields on Coal, Iron (ingots), Redstone, Lapis, Diamond, Emerald, and Nether Star ores. Silk Touch collects the ore block itself for storage or later mining.

Abilities And Mechanics

Ancient Nether Star Ore

• Light emission: Level 10 — visible as a soft glow through thin walls.
• Hardness / Blast resistance: Matches Ancient Debris (hardness 60, blast resistance 1200). It cannot be destroyed by explosions.
• Drop: One Nether Star per block (Fortune can increase this).
• Iron pickaxe penalty: Breaking speed is multiplied by 0.15× when an iron pickaxe is the held tool.
• Spawning: Placed adjacent to naturally generated Ancient Debris — there is a 1-in-5 (20 %) chance each time an Ancient Debris vein generates that one Ancient Nether Star Ore block is placed in netherrack, basalt, or blackstone within a few blocks of that vein.

Standard Ore Tiers

• Nether Gold-style (Coal, Iron, Copper, Redstone, Lapis): moderate toughness, behaves like Nether Gold Ore.
• Ancient Debris-style (Diamond, Emerald, Ancient Nether Star): high blast resistance, never destroyed by creeper or TNT explosions.

Where Ores Generate

Finding Ancient Nether Star Ore

Ancient Nether Star Ore does not have its own independent vein — it piggybacks on Ancient Debris generation. When an Ancient Debris vein spawns, there is a 1-in-5 chance that a single Ancient Nether Star Ore block appears within about 2 blocks horizontally and 1 block vertically of one of those Ancient Debris blocks. It replaces netherrack, basalt, or blackstone only.

• Mine at the same Y levels where you hunt Ancient Debris (typically Y 8–22).
• Look for its light level 10 glow through walls — it stands out in the dark Nether.
• It generates singly, never in clusters.

Suggested Progression

1. Early Nether trips — mine Nether Coal, Iron, and Copper to stock up on materials without returning to the Overworld.
2. Mid-game — collect Redstone and Lapis in bulk; Fortune pays off heavily here. Nether Iron's 4-ingot-per-block yield makes armour and tool upgrades fast.
3. Deep Nether — hunt Nether Diamond and Emerald Ore for premium drops with Ancient Debris-level durability.
4. Nether Star hunt — branch-mine alongside your Ancient Debris runs and watch for the amber glow. Each Ancient Nether Star Ore found grants a free Nether Star, enabling Beacon construction far earlier than fighting the Wither would allow.
