Yellow Eyed Gatekeeper

Quickstart

Find the Gatekeeper Spawn Egg in the Creative inventory and use it on the ground to spawn a Gatekeeper. Then try placing it in an open area with hostile mobs nearby: it automatically looks for monsters and fires crossbow bolts at those it can see.

In Survival, look for Gatekeepers on the surface in plains, savanna, taiga, or desert biomes.

Overview

The Gatekeeper is a yellow-eyed villager that keeps hostile mobs at bay with a crossbow. It wanders when it has no target and attacks monsters on its own; there are no manual attack controls.

What It Adds

• The Gatekeeper mob and its spawn egg.
• Natural surface spawning in plains, savanna, taiga, and desert biomes, in groups of one or two when conditions allow.

How To Use

Spawn a Gatekeeper with its egg, then give it room and a clear view of nearby monsters. It can walk through doors and over water, but blocks that obstruct its view prevent it from firing.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Has 28 health points.
• Detects and targets monsters within about 22 blocks, provided it has line of sight.
• Fires arrows automatically, with a pause of about 2.4 seconds between attacks.
• Moves toward nearby targets and wanders when none are available.

Crafting And Obtaining

Use the Spawn Egg in Creative, or encounter Gatekeepers naturally on the surface in the listed biomes.

When killed by a player, a Gatekeeper drops 1–3 emeralds. It may also drop 2–5 arrows or a damaged crossbow.
