Quickstart

1. Craft the one-per-world Frost Heart at a crafting table:

1. Use the Frost Heart to craft Winter's Bite Cutlass:

1. Put the cutlass in your main hand and attack nearby mobs. Each hit builds Frostbite and contributes to your combat combo.
2. Try the cutlass’s abilities with the Use button:
   • Use normally for Frost Burst.
   • Jump, then use it while airborne for Lunging Shockwave.
   • Sprint and use it for Subzero Freeze.
   • Sneak and use it for Ice Age.
3. Stand on ice to gain additional combat buffs. Keep attacking to build momentum, but do not wait more than five seconds between hits.

Overview

Winter's Bite Cutlass is an epic, unstackable sword that combines melee combat with freezing effects, combo attacks, defensive buffs, and large-scale ice magic.

The cutlass:

• Deals 9 damage per hit.
• Has 720 durability.
• Can receive sword enchantments.
• Breaks cobwebs quickly.
• Provides Fire Resistance while held.
• Freezes nearby water.
• Activates a powerful safeguard when you reach critical health.

The Frost Heart is an epic relic used to craft the cutlass. Carrying it also freezes nearby water, but it does not provide the cutlass’s combat abilities.

What It Adds

Crafting And Obtaining

The Frost Heart requires packed ice, prismarine crystals, diamonds, and a Heart of the Sea. Only one Frost Heart can be claimed in a world. Once one has been crafted or claimed, additional Frost Hearts are removed.

The cutlass requires a Powder Snow Bucket, Nether Star, Frost Heart, Blue Ice, Blaze Rod, and Netherite Ingot.

Both items are unstackable and have an epic rarity glint.

Repairing

Repair the cutlass with Netherite Ingots or Blue Ice. Each repair restores approximately one quarter of its maximum durability.

How To Use

Basic Attacks

Every successful hit with the cutlass applies one Frostbite stack to the target, up to five stacks.

• Frostbite slows the target for four seconds.
• The first hit of a fresh attack sequence applies an additional short Slowness effect.
• At five stacks, the target is Frozen Solid:
  • It receives very strong Slowness for seven seconds.
  • It receives Weakness for seven seconds.
  • Its Frostbite stacks reset.

Frostbite stacks are tracked separately for each target.

Ability Controls

Abilities require the cutlass to be in your main hand. Sneaking takes priority over the other modifiers, followed by being airborne, then sprinting.

Using an ability while it is recharging displays the remaining cooldown on your action bar. Each ability has its own cooldown.

Combo Milestones

Melee hits build a momentum combo. The combo resets after five seconds without hitting an entity.

A milestone ability only activates when its cooldown is ready. The combo still advances even if that ability is recharging.

Abilities And Mechanics

Frost Burst

Frost Burst affects entities within four blocks.

• Non-player entities take damage and receive strong Slowness for five seconds.
• Nearby players receive Regeneration and Resistance for five seconds.
• The burst can be activated manually or triggered when Frostbite reaches five stacks.

Lunging Shockwave

Lunging Shockwave is useful for closing distance or controlling a group.

• Propels you forward in the direction you are looking.
• Knocks nearby non-player entities backward.
• Deals damage and applies heavy Slowness to those entities.
• Gives nearby players Speed for four seconds.

Subzero Freeze

Subzero Freeze creates a defensive freezing zone around you.

• Affects entities within 15 blocks.
• Freezes and weakens non-player entities while dealing damage.
• Gives nearby players Resistance, Fire Resistance, and freezing protection.
• Continues freezing newly flowing water in the area for a short time.
• Nearby players may have an empty bucket refilled with water during the active effect.

Ice Age

Ice Age is the cutlass’s largest battlefield ability.

Within a circular area up to 50 blocks away:

• Water becomes ice.
• Lava becomes obsidian.
• Grass blocks beneath the affected area become snow blocks.
• Non-player entities take repeated freezing damage while the effect remains active.
• Non-player entities receive powerful freezing and Weakness effects.
• Nearby players receive Resistance, Fire Resistance, Regeneration, and freezing effects.
• You receive Fire Resistance and Strength.

Water And Ice Effects

While you carry either the Frost Heart or the cutlass, nearby water is automatically turned into ice. The effect covers a 5 × 5 horizontal area around you, including the water at your level and one block above and below it.

When the cutlass freezes nearby water, its ability damage and durations are temporarily reduced to 75%. The action bar displays Water-nerfed 25% while this reduction is active.

Holding the cutlass while standing on ice grants:

• Speed II
• Strength I

The cutlass also grants Fire Resistance while held in either hand. Use the main hand when you want to activate abilities.

Time's Freeze

When your health falls to 25% or less, the cutlass automatically activates Time's Freeze once per low-health event.

Time's Freeze:

• Freezes and weakens entities within 10 blocks.
• Grants you Resistance III, Regeneration II, Strength II, and Speed II.
• Lasts for approximately nine seconds.
• Has a 30-second safeguard cooldown.

Recover above critical health before it can arm itself for another activation.

Progression And Strategy

1. Forge the Frost Heart first. It is the essential ingredient for the cutlass and can only be claimed once in a world.
2. Start fights with normal attacks. Build Frostbite on priority targets and use the five-hit trigger to create an opening.
3. Maintain momentum. Hit an enemy at least once every five seconds to reach the 5-, 8-, and 12-hit combo milestones.
4. Use the right ability for the situation.
   • Use Frost Burst when surrounded or when you need quick defensive buffs.
   • Use Lunging Shockwave to engage or scatter enemies.
   • Use Subzero Freeze to control a medium-sized area.
   • Use Ice Age against large groups or when reshaping the battlefield is valuable.
5. Fight on ice whenever possible. The cutlass makes ice a source of Speed and Strength.
6. Be careful near water. The cutlass freezes it automatically, but its active abilities are temporarily weaker while the water penalty is active.
7. Save Sneak + Use for major encounters. Ice Age covers a huge area and provides strong protection, damage, and terrain control.
8. Do not panic at low health. Time's Freeze can immobilize nearby threats and give you enough defensive and regenerative power to escape or counterattack.
