Windows 98 Simulator adds a self-contained, nostalgic desktop experience inside Minecraft. Use one item to open a teal desktop with classic gray windows, a taskbar, desktop applications, and a Start menu.
The simulator is purely in-game. It does not read or write files on your computer, and its pretend documents are not saved outside Minecraft.
The item is single-stack, so each inventory stack contains only one simulator item. It is also available in the Functional item group in Creative mode.
Hold the Windows 98 Simulator item and use it. The simulator screen opens on the client without placing a block or changing the world.
Click a desktop button to open its corresponding window. Only one application window is shown at a time; selecting another desktop application replaces the current display.

The window contents are informational and cannot be edited or used to access real computer files.
Click Start on the taskbar to toggle the menu. It displays the labels:
These entries are part of the simulated desktop presentation. The Start menu does not launch Minecraft programs, open files, or shut down your computer.
Press Esc to close the desktop and return to Minecraft. Opening or closing the simulator does not pause the world.
The recipe becomes available after joining a world. Craft the item with iron ingots, glass panes, a book, and redstone:
In Creative mode, look for Windows 98 Simulator in the Functional item group.
