Quickstart

Install the .mcaddon file and apply both the behavior pack and resource pack to your world. Once you load in, the vanilla hearts, hunger, armor, air bubbles, and XP bar disappear and are replaced immediately — no commands or setup required. Take some damage, eat food, put on armor, dive underwater, or gain XP levels to see each element of the new HUD in action.

Overview

Vitality Bars replaces Minecraft's default HUD with a clean, minimalist two-line action bar displayed at the bottom of your screen. Every stat you need is shown in a compact, always-readable format, with smart visibility so elements only appear when they are relevant.

What It Adds

Line 1 — Health & Hunger

The top line of the action bar shows your health on the left (in red) and your hunger on the right. When you take damage, the health display flashes a darker red. Natural regeneration still works normally when your hunger bar is full.

Line 2 — Armor & XP

The second line shows your armor rating and XP progress side by side.

• Armor — Hidden entirely when you are not wearing any armor. When you equip armor, a white compact bar appears alongside the numeric armor point total (out of 20).
• XP — Displays your current level number and a compact progress bar showing how far along you are toward the next level.

Air Bar

The vanilla air bubbles are replaced by a centered Air line that appears above the two-line HUD. It is hidden during normal gameplay and only becomes visible when your breath is actually draining — while your head is submerged in water or while you are near breath-affecting blocks such as kelp, seagrass, bubble columns, dead coral, sea pickles, glow lichen, and similar underwater features.

Golden Apple Hearts

Eating a golden apple shows temporary extra hearts on your health display for the duration of the absorption effect. A standard golden apple grants 2 extra hearts; an enchanted golden apple grants 8.

Potion Effect Timer

When you have active potion effects, a small persistent timer appears showing a countdown for whichever effect is closest to expiring, so you always know when to re-apply.

Time of Day Indicator

The clock/daylight indicator is replaced by a row of phase labels:

The current phase is highlighted in bold with brackets. The indicator updates automatically per player with no input needed.

How To Use

Everything works automatically from the moment you load into a world with the packs active. There are no commands to run and no items to craft or obtain.

• Health flash — Take damage to see the red damage-flash indicator.
• Armor bar — Equip any piece of armor and the armor line appears instantly; remove all armor and it disappears.
• Air bar — Dive underwater or swim near breath-draining blocks and the Air line appears above the HUD; it vanishes the moment you surface and your breath fully recovers.
• Golden apple absorption — Eat a golden apple and watch extra hearts appear on your health line for the absorption duration.
• Potion timer — Drink any potion with a duration; the timer for the soonest-expiring effect shows on the HUD automatically.
• Time indicator — Visible at all times, updating as the in-game day progresses.

Abilities And Mechanics

• The HUD refreshes every 5 ticks (~¼ second), keeping all values up to date without impacting performance.
• Armor points are read directly from your equipped gear and displayed numerically alongside the compact visual bar.
• The air system tracks your breath conservatively so the Air line never disappears prematurely in tricky underwater situations (bubble columns, partial-water blocks, etc.).
• All vanilla HUD elements (hearts, hunger, armor, air bubbles, XP bar, horse health) are cleanly hidden and fully replaced — no overlapping displays.
