Quickstart

1. Craft a Mold Block at a crafting table and place it anywhere in your world — it immediately begins spreading.
2. Gather glass and a honey bottle, then craft a Vinegar Block to place as a defensive barrier around your base.
3. Craft Vinegar Bottles (you get 2 per craft) and throw them at infected areas to instantly cleanse mold and reclaim territory.
4. Watch your action bar for warnings — standing near spreading mold inflicts Slowness and Weakness.

Overview

The Great Mold And Vinegar Defense transforms your world into a tense struggle between a creeping fungal infestation and your homemade countermeasures. A single placed Mold Block can silently take over your base, converting floors, walls, logs, and leaves into infected territory — even while you're away. Your only tools are vinegar-based crafting and quick reflexes.

How To Use

The Mold

Place a Mold Block to start an infestation. Over time it spawns Mold Growth on adjacent moldable surfaces — dirt, stone, planks, logs, leaves, sand, gravel, clay, moss, and more. Mold Growth is extremely fragile and can be broken by hand in an instant, but each patch is also a spread source, meaning infestations compound quickly.

The mold continues spreading in any loaded, ticking area even when no player is nearby, so an undefended base will be progressively consumed.

Player effects: When mold checks for spread near you, you receive a Weakness effect lasting about 25 seconds and a Slowness effect, with an action-bar warning. Stay alert.

Vinegar Blocks — Area Defense

Place Vinegar Blocks around structures you want to protect. Each block:

• Emits a bright golden glow (light level 9).
• Projects an aura that prevents mold from spreading into any space adjacent to the block.
• Gradually fizz-cleanses nearby Mold Growth over time.

Use Vinegar Blocks as a perimeter wall or scatter them throughout an infested area to push back the mold passively.

Vinegar Bottles — Active Cleansing

Hold a Vinegar Bottle and use it (right-click / interact) while aiming at a block up to 12 blocks away. The bottle splashes on impact, instantly cleansing all mold in the targeted area with a fizzing sound and particle effect. The glass bottle is returned to your inventory after use.

Cleansing a Mold Block restores the original block underneath it and grants a short temporary immunity to that location, preventing immediate re-infestation.

Abilities And Mechanics

Moldable Surfaces

Mold can spread onto a wide range of blocks including all dirt variants, stone types (stone, cobblestone, stone bricks, deepslate, etc.), all wood planks and logs, all leaf types, vines, cave vines, sand, gravel, clay, and moss blocks. Blocks not on this list cannot be infected.

Spread Behavior

• Each mold source has a cooldown between spread attempts (~12 seconds, plus a random buffer), keeping spread bounded and consistent.
• If an area becomes heavily saturated with mold, spread from sources in that area pauses automatically until it thins out.
• A Vinegar Block's aura blocks spread into adjacent spaces entirely — mold cannot jump over or through it.
• The system processes a limited number of sources and placements per tick, so growth is challenging but never world-destroying.

Temporary Immunity

When mold is cleansed (by either method), the cleared location gains a brief immunity window during which mold cannot re-infest it. Use this window to quickly place Vinegar Blocks or reclaim territory.

Progression And Strategy

• Early game: Place a single Mold Block and observe how quickly it spreads. Immediately start gathering slime balls, glass, and honey to build your first defenses.
• Defense ring: Surround your base perimeter with Vinegar Blocks before the mold reaches your walls. One block per gap is usually enough since each projects an aura into adjacent spaces.
• Active reclamation: Use Vinegar Bottles to clear deep infestations quickly, then seal the cleansed zone with Vinegar Blocks before mold returns.
• Resource pressure: Honey bottles and honeycomb require bee farming. Establishing an apiary early gives you a reliable supply of both Vinegar Blocks and Vinegar Bottles.
• Offline threat: Because mold spreads in loaded chunks even without you nearby, consider keeping your base in an unloaded area or thoroughly fortifying it with Vinegar Blocks before logging off.
• Aggressive play: Deliberately seed enemy territory (in multiplayer) or abandoned structures with Mold Blocks, then watch the infestation do the work for you.
