Quickstart

1. Craft the Sniffer Tamer item using the recipe below (or check your recipe book — it's unlocked automatically for every player).
2. Hold the Sniffer Tamer and right-click (use item) anywhere in the world.
3. A tame, adult Sniffer will spawn in front of you, already named after you.
4. Repeat as often as you like — the item has limited durability but doesn't get consumed instantly, so you can summon several companions before it breaks.

Overview

Sniffer Tamer adds a single, powerful tool that lets you summon your own personal Sniffer companion on demand. No breeding, no digging up eggs, no waiting — just craft the item and start summoning loyal, named Sniffers wherever you go.

What It Adds

• Sniffer Tamer — a durable, one-handed item that summons a tame, fully grown Sniffer when used.

How To Use

• Hold the Sniffer Tamer in either hand and use it (right-click) to summon a Sniffer a couple of blocks in front of you, facing the same direction you are.
• The summoned Sniffer:
  • Spawns as a full adult, ready to roam and sniff around immediately.
  • Is automatically named after you (e.g. "YourName's Sniffer"), with the name visible above its head.
  • Plays a happy Sniffer sound effect when it appears.
• After summoning, there's a short cooldown (about 5 seconds) before you can use the item again.
• Each use costs a small amount of durability. The item can be used multiple times before it eventually breaks, since it has extra durability built in.
• The Sniffer Tamer is registered as a weapon-type item, so it can be used in either hand slot like other handheld tools.

Craft the Sniffer Tamer using a Sniffer Egg, Moss Blocks, Bone Meal, and a Blaze Rod in a shaped crafting recipe:

You don't need to discover this recipe first — it's automatically unlocked in your recipe book as soon as you join the world, so you can start crafting it right away.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Summoned Sniffers are tracked as belonging to whichever player summoned them, so you can tell your tamed companions apart from wild ones you encounter naturally.
• Sniffers created this way behave like normal adult Sniffers — they can walk around, sniff at the ground, and dig up ancient seeds just like any other Sniffer in the world.
• Because each Sniffer spawns already grown up, there's no need to wait for eggs to hatch or baby Sniffers to mature.

Progression And Strategy

• Use the Sniffer Tamer to quickly populate a base, garden, or exhibit with named companions without hunting for rare Sniffer eggs in suspicious sand.
• Since the item has limited durability, plan your summons — each use chips away at the tool, so save it for spots where you actually want a Sniffer to stay.
• Craft a spare Sniffer Tamer or gather extra crafting materials (Sniffer Eggs, Moss Blocks, Bone Meal, Blaze Rods) if you plan on summoning a large group of Sniffers over time.
