Description
The Sharklotl Hunter is a hostile aquatic predator that fuses the body of an axolotl with the aggression of a shark. It is dangerous in any environment — equally threatening whether you are swimming through the ocean depths or standing on a beach. Unlike passive axolotls, this creature treats players as prey.
The Sharklotl Hunter is lethal in two distinct modes depending on where the encounter takes place:
Like a real axolotl, the Sharklotl Hunter suffers on dry land over time. If it cannot reach water within roughly 30 seconds of drying out, it begins taking continuous damage. Rain can extend its survival on land. This gives players a potential survival strategy: lure it away from water and keep it grounded.
Two adult Sharklotl Hunters can be bred using a Tropical Fish Bucket, producing a baby. The baby follows its parent until it grows up. There is an extremely rare chance a baby will be born as a colour variant.
Fighting underwater is the most dangerous scenario. The Sharklotl Hunter is faster than a swimming player and accelerates to catch up. Prioritise fighting near the surface or on land when possible.
Fighting on land gives you more breathing room. The circling behaviour means it takes a moment before it closes in — use that window to attack from range or ready a strong melee weapon.
Looting enchantment significantly improves your drop chances, especially for the rarer items. Bring a Looting III sword for the best results.
The Sharklotl Hunter drops several items on death. All player-kill-only drops benefit from the Looting enchantment.
| Drop | Conditions | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Shark Tooth (flint) | Always | 1–4 (increased by Looting) |
| Cod or Salmon | Always | 1–3 cod / 1–2 salmon (cooked if killed by fire) |
| Hunter's Scale (nautilus shell) | Killed by player; ~40% chance | 1–2 |
| Aquatic Essence (prismarine crystals) | Killed by player; ~12% base chance | 1 |
| Sharklotl Heart (Heart of the Sea) | Killed by player; ~4% base chance | 1 |
Tip: The Sharklotl Heart is the rarest drop and only comes from player kills — Looting increases the odds slightly, so always fight with a Looting-enchanted sword.
The Sharklotl Hunter spawns naturally on Easy through Hard difficulty in the following locations:
| Environment | Biomes | Group Size |
|---|---|---|
| Underwater | Ocean, Deep Ocean, River | 1–3 |
| Surface | Beach, Ocean shoreline | 1–2 |
Spawning only occurs in low-light conditions (light level 0–7), and the spawn rate adjusts for weather. You are more likely to encounter them during storms or at night near the water's edge.
