Shadow Riftblade

Quickstart

  1. Craft a Shadow Riftblade using the recipe below.
  2. Hold it in your hand and swing at nearby enemies — every hit inflicts the Wither effect.
  3. Right-click (use item) to tear open one to three swirling black rifts near you. Each rift fires a volley of homing blades at nearby hostile mobs.
  4. The blade never breaks and never loses durability, no matter how much you fight or mine with it — swing away without worry.

Overview

The Shadow Riftblade is a cursed netherite greatsword forged from remnants of the Nether and the End. It fights like a powerful sword in melee, but its true strength is unleashed with a right-click: tearing open dark, swirling rifts that summon homing spectral blades to hunt down nearby monsters. Every strike — melee or summoned — leaves foes wasting away from the Wither.

What It Adds

  • Shadow Riftblade — an unbreakable netherite sword with a permanent enchantment glint.
  • Shadow Rifts — short-lived black portal effects that appear when the blade is activated, each firing a fan of spectral blades.
  • Riftblade projectiles — homing blade copies launched from rifts, visually matching the sword itself as they spin through the air.

Crafting And Obtaining

The Shadow Riftblade is assembled from Nether and End materials at a crafting table:

minecraft:netherite_scrap
minecraft:ender_eye
minecraft:netherite_scrap
minecraft:netherite_ingot
minecraft:netherite_scrap
minecraft:wither_skeleton_skull
minecraft:stick
Arrow

It requires netherite scrap, an ender eye, a netherite ingot, a wither skeleton skull, and a stick. Once known, the recipe appears in your recipe book automatically after joining a world.

Abilities And Mechanics

Melee combat: The Riftblade behaves like a netherite sword in your hand (strong damage, slower swing) and never takes durability damage, even from blocking, mining, or prolonged combat. Every successful melee hit applies the Wither status effect to the target for several seconds.

Rift activation (right-click / use): Activating the blade opens up to three shadow rifts around you:

  • If hostile monsters are nearby (within 20 blocks), rifts open near you and target the closest threats.
  • If no monsters are in range, a single rift opens in front of you, aimed where you're looking.

Each rift spins visibly for under two seconds before firing a tight five-blade volley at its target, then closes. Rifts can track a moving target and will retarget automatically if their original target dies before they finish firing, so multiple rifts can keep working independently.

Homing blades: Each blade fired from a rift chases the nearest hostile monster, curving its flight path toward its target as it flies. On impact it deals damage and inflicts Wither on whatever it strikes, just like a melee hit.

Progression And Strategy

Because the Riftblade never breaks, it functions as a permanent late-game weapon rather than a consumable tool. Use the right-click rift ability to soften or finish off groups of monsters at range before they close the distance, then switch to melee strikes — backed by the Wither curse — to clean up survivors. The rift ability works best against clusters of hostile mobs, since more visible targets means more rifts open and more blades fired per activation.
