Quickstart

1. Craft a Rainbow Jelly using the recipe below.
2. Hold it in your hand and right-click any mob to coat it in a glowing, cycling rainbow outline.
3. Right-click the same mob again to remove the effect (the item is still consumed).
4. Stack up to 64 Rainbow Jellies and go wild on a crowd — each mob shimmers with its own unique color offset!

Overview

Rainbow Jelly is a magical consumable item that lets you paint any mob with a vivid, full-spectrum glowing aura. The glow smoothly cycles through every color of the rainbow in real time, and when multiple mobs are affected at once, each one displays a slightly different hue — so a whole herd of rainbow-coated cows never looks like a single uniform blob of light.

The Rainbow Jelly has an enchantment-style glint on its item icon, hinting at its magical nature.

How To Use

• Apply the rainbow effect: Right-click a mob while holding a Rainbow Jelly. The mob immediately begins glowing with a smooth rainbow color animation. A chime sound plays and a burst of End Rod particles appears around the mob to confirm the effect.
• Remove the rainbow effect: Right-click the same mob again with another Rainbow Jelly. The glow is removed instantly.
• Consumption: One Rainbow Jelly is consumed per use in Survival mode. In Creative mode the item is not consumed, making it easy to decorate large groups of mobs.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Cycling color animation: The glow outline cycles through the full color spectrum continuously. The cycle completes roughly every 4 seconds of in-game time.
• Per-mob color offset: Every mob has a unique color phase derived from its internal ID, so two mobs affected at the same moment still display different colors. A crowd of rainbow mobs always looks varied and lively.
• Toggle behavior: The effect is a simple on/off toggle — applying it again removes it. There is no duration or expiration; the glow persists until manually removed or until the world is reloaded.
• Piglin curiosity: Piglins are naturally attracted to Rainbow Jelly, treating it the same way they treat gold-related items — they won't attack you while you're holding one.

Crafting And Obtaining

The recipe is unlocked automatically when you join a world — no advancement or prerequisite is required.

Ingredients at a glance: red, blue, green, yellow, and lime dyes arranged around a central Slime Ball, with a Honey Bottle at the bottom. All ingredients are obtainable in early- to mid-game, making Rainbow Jelly accessible well before you reach the Nether or End.

Progression And Strategy

• Early decoration: Once you have a slime farm or have found a swamp, you can start mass-producing Rainbow Jellies. Dyes are cheap and honey bottles are easy to obtain from bee nests.
• Mob identification: Apply rainbow glows to specific mobs (e.g., a named pet or a champion animal) to make them instantly visible from a distance — the glowing outline shows through walls just like the standard glow effect.
• Crowd displays: Use Creative mode or a large Jelly supply to coat entire groups of mobs for decorative builds, mob showcases, or event arenas. The per-mob offset ensures every creature looks distinct.
• Piglin trading tip: Holding a Rainbow Jelly while navigating Piglin-populated areas prevents unprovoked attacks, giving you a small safety window in Nether fortresses and bastions.
