Rainbow Block Pen

Quickstart

1. Craft the Rainbow Block Pen at a crafting table:

1. Hold the pen in your hand.
2. Aim at a wool, concrete, concrete powder, terracotta, glazed terracotta, glass, or glass pane block.
3. Use the pen on the block to recolor it with the currently selected color.
4. Use the pen without targeting a block to cycle to the next color. The selected color appears in the action bar.

The pen starts with White selected. It can recolor blocks up to 8 blocks away and does not target liquids or passable blocks.

Overview

The Rainbow Block Pen is a single-use-at-a-time coloring tool for building and decorating. It replaces supported blocks with the matching colored variant without requiring dye for each recoloring action.

The pen supports all 16 standard Minecraft colors:

• White
• Orange
• Magenta
• Light Blue
• Yellow
• Lime
• Pink
• Gray
• Light Gray
• Cyan
• Purple
• Blue
• Brown
• Green
• Red
• Black

The selected color is tracked separately for each player, so one player's color choice does not affect another player's pen.

How To Use

Select a color

Hold the Rainbow Block Pen and use it without aiming at a supported block. Each use advances to the next color in this order:

White → Orange → Magenta → Light Blue → Yellow → Lime → Pink → Gray → Light Gray → Cyan → Purple → Blue → Brown → Green → Red → Black → White

The action bar displays the new selection, such as Rainbow Block Pen: Blue.

Recolor a block

Aim at a supported block and use the pen on it. The block changes to the selected color while keeping its block family.

For example:

• White wool becomes blue wool when Blue is selected.
• Red concrete becomes green concrete when Green is selected.
• Plain glass becomes stained glass in the selected color.
• Plain glass panes become stained glass panes in the selected color.

A recolored block can be targeted again to change it to another color.

Supported blocks

Blocks outside these families cannot be recolored with the pen. When an unsupported block is targeted, the action bar displays a message telling you to target wool, concrete, terracotta, or glass.

Crafting And Obtaining

The Rainbow Block Pen is crafted at a crafting table using the full rainbow selection of dyes together with a feather. The recipe becomes available after obtaining red dye.

It can also be obtained directly with a command:

/give @s com_rainbow_block_pen_lghokcjb:my_sword

The pen does not stack and has 256 durability. Keep an eye on its durability while recoloring large builds.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Color cycling: Use the pen away from a target block to select a different color.
• Block recoloring: Use the pen on a supported block to replace it with the selected color.
• Range: The pen checks the block you are looking at within 8 blocks.
• One-block changes: Only the targeted block is recolored; surrounding blocks remain unchanged.
• No dye consumption per use: After crafting the pen, selecting and applying colors does not require carrying additional dyes.
• Durability: The pen has 256 durability and can wear down during use.
• Per-player selection: Each player has an independent selected color.

Progression And Strategy

Craft the pen early when working on colorful builds so you can carry one tool instead of many stacks of dyed blocks. Plan your color palette before starting, then cycle through the colors while checking the action-bar display.

For large projects:

• Build the structure with a single block family first.
• Select a color before each section.
• Recolor blocks from within the pen's 8-block range.
• Use plain glass or glass panes when you want the pen to produce stained versions.
• Carry spare blocks for areas outside the pen's range or for unsupported decorative blocks.
