Description
Create an otter mod where you can have your own adorable otter. The goal is to adopt an otter and protect it from monsters; if a monster eats it, you lose. At the start, you receive a gift box—interact with it to get your otter. It will follow you everywhere and bear your name. At night, monsters will appear that want to kill it; zombies and standard mobs pose a threat, but there is also a tall, monstrous creature that appears in the distance at night, watching you. If you try to approach it, it will move further away—essentially teleporting. There is also a short, slow-moving monster that specifically wants to eat your otter. You also get a tablet that allows you to pick up your otter, and you’ll need to build a little house for it. That’s the mod for now.

Quickstart
- At the start, you receive an Otter Adoption Gift, an Otter Care Tablet, and a language book. Use the gift from your hotbar to spawn your otter. It takes your name and follows you.
- Use the tablet and choose Pick up / call your otter to carry it safely. Choose the same option again to call it back; Return / release your otter also releases a carried otter.
- Use the tablet on a block where you want your otter’s home, then build a snug shelter around that spot. The marked home is also where a carried otter can be called back.
- Prepare for night: ordinary hostile mobs and mod creatures can threaten your companion. Keep it sheltered, nearby, and healthy with fish or salmon.
Overview
Otter Nightwatch is a three-night pet-protection challenge. Your HUD tracks your otter’s health, the number of nights survived, and whether it is safe daylight or night watch. Protect your companion from monsters—and watch the darkness for stranger threats.

How To Use
Care for your otter
Use the tablet to open its menu. Picking up your otter stores it as a Carried Otter item; make room in your inventory first. Call or release it when you’re ready for it to follow you again. The tablet has a brief pickup cooldown.
Use fish or salmon to heal your otter. Mark a home with the tablet on a block, then build an enclosed shelter there: the marked spot is intended as a safe place from the Otter Eater. Carry your otter when travelling somewhere dangerous.

Abilities And Mechanics
- Your otter follows you and is named after you. Fish and salmon heal it.
- The tablet’s pickup option carries the otter; calling it back uses its marked home when available.
- The Night Watcher’s distant appearances and sudden relocations make chasing it unreliable.
- The Otter Eater is a direct danger to your pet. A proper shelter around the marked home is your best protection.
- If the otter is eaten and the watch ends, use another adoption gift to begin again.
Progression And Strategy
Survive the three-night watch and keep an eye on your otter’s health. The second night can bring a pizzeria scene and a Window Stalker, so a secure base is useful. During the final encounter, the Giant Zombie takes your otter; the fight supplies iron armor and an unbreakable iron sword. Defeat the Giant Zombie to recover your companion and receive the Otter World Portal.
Use the portal to reach the otter’s laboratory. There, use the Carried Otter on the Otter Return Machine to return your friend to its own world and complete the rescue. The three-night survival milestone awards four salmon.
