Ore Sight

Quickstart

1. Install the mod (client-side only — safe to use on any server).
2. Load into any world or server.
3. Press O to toggle Ore Sight on. A message appears on-screen confirming the mode is active.
4. Head underground. Stone and other common filler blocks vanish, leaving only ore faces glowing at full brightness so you can spot them at a glance.
5. Press O again at any time to restore normal rendering.

Overview

Ore Sight is a purely visual client-side mod that strips away the visual clutter of underground filler blocks, revealing only the faces of ore blocks. No blocks are actually removed or altered — the world remains exactly as it is on the server. The effect is purely cosmetic and toggles instantly with a single key press.

What It Adds

Ore Sight adds one thing: a toggleable X-ray-style ore-highlighting mode. When active:

• Common filler blocks are hidden — their faces become invisible, opening up the visual field.
• Ore blocks glow at full brightness — they render as if fully lit regardless of the surrounding light level, making them easy to spot even in dark caves.

How To Use

Toggling Ore Sight

Press O (bound under the Ore Sight category in Minecraft's Controls settings) to switch the mode on or off. When you toggle, the world renderer refreshes immediately — no need to reload chunks or rejoin the world. An on-screen message tells you the current state:

• "Ore Sight enabled: stone is hidden and ore faces glow brighter."
• "Ore Sight disabled: normal stone rendering restored."

You can rebind the toggle key in Options → Controls → Ore Sight → Toggle Ore Sight.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Client-only effect: The mod only changes what you see. Block data, drops, mining speed, light levels, and server state are completely unaffected.
• Instant refresh: Toggling rebuilds the chunk geometry on the spot so the effect appears without any delay or screen flash.
• Full-brightness ores: Ore faces always render at maximum brightness when Ore Sight is active, so they stand out clearly even in unlit caves and the Nether.
• Works in all dimensions: The Nether and End filler blocks (Netherrack, Basalt, Blackstone, End Stone) are also hidden, making Nether ore hunting and ancient debris searches equally effective.

Progression And Strategy

• Early game: Enable Ore Sight before your first mining session to quickly locate iron and coal veins without needing to dig exploratory tunnels.
• Mid game: The full-bright display makes spotting gold, redstone, and lapis trivial. Use it to sweep large cave systems efficiently.
• Late game / Nether: Ancient debris is notoriously rare and hidden inside Netherrack. With Ore Sight active, Netherrack disappears and ancient debris faces become bright beacons — pair this with strip-mining at Y=15 in the Nether for fast netherite hunting.
• Diamond hunting: With stone hidden and diamond ore glowing, you can visually scan exposed cave walls much faster than traditional methods. Y=-58 remains the optimal level.
• Toggle on demand: There is no penalty for switching modes. Toggle Ore Sight off when building or navigating to restore normal visuals, then back on when you need to locate resources.
