Quickstart

1. Craft the Opal Hearth Rod at a Crafting Table:

Two iron ingots and one amethyst shard arranged diagonally yield one Opal Hearth Rod.

1. Hold the rod and right-click any solid block where you want the home to appear.
2. A fully furnished 11×11×11 villager home is built one block above the clicked position, and a villager spawns inside holding their own rod.
3. A green action-bar message confirms success. In Survival the rod is consumed, so choose your spot carefully.
4. To start growing a village, right-click the rod-holding villager — they will build a furnished neighbor home at least 27 blocks from any existing bed.

Overview

The Opal Hearth Rod is a one-use magical item for Java Edition Minecraft 1.21.5 (Fabric). Right-clicking any solid block instantly constructs a vanilla-style furnished villager home and spawns a resident villager. That villager visibly carries their own rod and can be prompted to found one neighbor home, letting a small village grow from a single craft.

Stocked Containers

The barrel and both chests are pre-filled with randomised goods drawn from a pool including: bread, apple, cookie, potato, carrot, wheat, beetroot, seeds, torches, candles, sticks, oak planks, cobblestone, coal, charcoal, raw copper, copper ingots, iron nuggets, iron ingots, string, feather, leather, paper, books, bones, glass panes, flower pots, carpets, and bone meal.

The Villager

One villager spawns inside the home with 12 randomised trades. Key details:

• Emeralds are never accepted as payment. Trades use common items — wheat, carrots, potatoes, coal, iron ingots, paper, leather, string, gunpowder, amethyst shards, and more.
• About 35% of trades require a second payment item alongside the first.
• Rewards include food, building blocks, tools, decorations, and rare items like a bell or name tag.
• The villager holds an Opal Hearth Rod visibly in their main hand — this is how you trigger the neighbor home feature.
• Villagers are persistent and placed at validated clear interior positions. If no safe spot is found the mod prepares a fallback position automatically.

How To Use

Building your first home

1. Hold the Opal Hearth Rod in your main hand.
2. Right-click any solid block at the desired build site.
3. The home is built centred above that point — ensure roughly 11×11×11 blocks of clear space.
4. The entire 11×11×11 volume is cleared before building, so existing blocks in that space will be overwritten.
5. In Survival the rod is consumed on use. In Creative it is reusable.

Founding a neighbor home

1. Find the villager that spawned in your home — they visibly carry an Opal Hearth Rod.
2. Right-click the villager to prompt them to use their rod.
3. The mod searches outward from the villager at distances of 32–48 blocks in eight directions for a location where the new bed would be at least 27 blocks from every existing bed.
4. If a valid site is found, a second furnished home is built there and a new villager spawns — the original villager's rod is removed, so this can only happen once per villager.
5. If no valid site exists, the villager plays a "no" sound and a red action-bar message explains why. Try again after clearing space or moving further from existing beds.

Tip: Place your first home on flat, open ground. Uneven terrain may partially bury or expose the structure.

• The rod has a permanent enchantment glint, making it visually distinct in your inventory.
• It is tagged as a weapon, so it works in weapon-related enchanting and loot contexts.
• The home construction clears a full 11×11×11 volume before placing blocks — use carefully near existing builds.
• Survival: one rod = one home. Creative: the rod is never consumed.
• Each rod-holding villager can found exactly one neighbor home — their rod is removed afterward.
• The neighbor home placement check ensures both the head and foot of the new bed are at least 27 blocks from all existing beds.

Progression And Strategy

• Craft the rod early — two iron ingots and an amethyst shard are accessible well before mid-game.
• The spawned home immediately provides a bed (set spawn / skip nights), a full suite of workstations (crafting table, smithing table, furnace, blast furnace, smoker, stonecutter, loom, cartography table, fletching table, grindstone), two chests, and a barrel — a complete survival base in one click.
• The resident villager's non-emerald trades let you convert common farm goods and mining byproducts into useful items without building a traditional emerald economy.
• Keep the resident villager safe so they can found a neighbor home — protecting them from mobs is worth the effort.
• Because the rod is consumed in Survival, craft a spare before venturing far if you want to establish a remote outpost.
• For the neighbor home feature to succeed, ensure open, flat terrain at least 30+ blocks in multiple directions from your first home before right-clicking the villager.
