Odyssey Longbow

Quickstart

1. Obtain the Bow of Odysseus by crafting it or using the item command:

   /give @s odyssey-longbow-csem6ks6:odyssey_longbow_csem6ks6
   

2. Place the bow in your hotbar and hold it.
3. Make sure you have regular arrows in your inventory. Creative-mode players can use the bow without carrying arrows.
4. Hold the use button to draw the bow, then release to fire.
5. Try it on distant targets—the arrow flies much faster and with no random spread. A cloud-like wind trail circles the arrow briefly after launch.

Overview

The Bow of Odysseus is the Odyssey Longbow's signature weapon. It behaves like a normal Minecraft bow while giving its arrows exceptional speed, range, and accuracy.

Arrows fired from this bow:

• Travel at 1.65× the normal launch speed.
• Have no random launch divergence, keeping their flight straight.
• Deal lethal damage to living targets they hit.
• Display a short-lived swirling cloud trail while in flight.
• Use normal arrow collision, gravity, pickup, and critical-hit behavior.

The bow has a durability of 384 and does not stack.

What It Adds

Bow of Odysseus

The Bow of Odysseus always has an enchantment glint. Its crafting result includes Mending I.

How To Use

Equip the bow in either hand slot and use it like a standard bow:

1. Hold the use button to draw.
2. Keep holding to increase the shot's draw strength.
3. Release to fire.

Use ordinary arrows as ammunition. The longbow creates its own enhanced projectile, so arrows fired from it receive the increased speed, perfect launch accuracy, lethal impact, and wind-trail effect.

The custom projectile still follows normal arrow behavior after launch. It can collide with blocks and entities, is affected by arrow gravity, and can be picked up when appropriate.

Wind Trail

Each fired arrow produces a brief rotating cloud trail during the first part of its flight. The trail is visual and helps show the arrow's fast path; it does not replace the arrow's damage or collision effects.

Crafting And Obtaining

The recipe is available after entering a world. Craft the Bow of Odysseus using:

• 1 heart of the sea
• 1 bow
• 2 gold ingots

Abilities And Mechanics

High-Speed Arrows

The longbow launches arrows at 1.65 times the normal speed. This lets you reach distant targets more quickly and makes it easier to hit targets before they move.

Straight Flight

The longbow removes the normal random launch spread. Aim carefully and the arrow follows the direction of your shot without additional divergence.

Arrow gravity still applies, so very long-range shots may require aiming above your target.

Lethal Impact

A living target struck by an Odyssey Longbow arrow is killed after the normal arrow hit effects are applied. This makes direct hits deadly against hostile mobs and other living entities.

Normal Bow Enchantments

The Bow of Odysseus is treated as a bow for enchantment purposes and can receive bow enchantments through normal Minecraft methods. Its crafted form already includes Mending I, allowing experience to restore durability when the bow is held or equipped as appropriate.

Progression And Strategy

• Use the longbow for opening attacks against distant enemies before they can reach you.
• Aim directly at targets at medium range; the lack of random spread makes precise shots reliable.
• Aim slightly higher for extreme distances to account for arrow gravity.
• Keep arrows stocked for survival play.
• Use Mending-compatible experience sources to maintain the bow's durability.
• Take advantage of the fast projectile when targeting moving mobs or enemies across open terrain.
