Nether Trader

Quickstart

1. Enter the Nether and look for a Nether Trader spawning on netherrack, soul sand, soul soil, crimson nylium, warped nylium, or basalt.
2. In Creative mode, search for and place the Nether Trader Spawn Egg.
3. Face the trader and interact with it to open its trading screen.
4. Review the displayed offers, place the required items in the trade slots, and collect the Nether goods it offers.
5. Give the trader time to work and resupply its offers before checking again if a trade becomes unavailable.

Overview

The Nether Trader is a villager-like merchant found in the Nether. It provides access to rare goods from the fiery depths through a standard trading interface.

The trader:

• Has 20 health points, or 10 hearts.
• Is immune to fire.
• Can still take damage from lava.
• Wanders, seeks shelter, and follows a villager-style daily schedule.
• Can restock its trades as it works.
• Can be named with a name tag.

What It Adds

• The Nether Trader mob.
• The Nether Trader Spawn Egg for Creative mode.
• A Nether-themed trading selection.
• Nether-specific natural spawning.
• Special Nether Trader drops when killed by a player.

How To Use

Trading

Interact with the Nether Trader to open its trading screen. Each offer shows the items required and the item you will receive.

To trade:

1. Select an available offer.
2. Place the required items into the input slots.
3. Take the result from the output slot.
4. Repeat with other available offers.

Completed trades remain associated with the trader. If an offer is exhausted, allow the trader to continue its daily routine and resupply before trying again.

Placing A Trader

In Creative mode, find the Nether Trader Spawn Egg in the item search and use it on a suitable location. This is the easiest way to create a permanent trading post or test the trader outside a naturally generated Nether area.

Crafting And Obtaining

There is no crafting recipe for the Nether Trader or its spawn egg.

Natural Spawning

Nether Traders naturally spawn:

• In Nether biomes.
• On the surface.
• On netherrack, soul sand, soul soil, crimson nylium, warped nylium, or basalt.
• At brightness levels from 0 through 11.
• One trader at a time.

Natural spawning is uncommon, so exploring several Nether areas may be necessary to find one.

Creative Spawn Egg

The Nether Trader Spawn Egg is available in Creative mode. Use it to place a trader wherever you want, including a protected market or trading hall.

Abilities And Mechanics

Nether Survival

The Nether Trader is immune to fire, making it well suited to Nether settlements and lava-side trading posts. Lava still damages it, so keep the trader away from lava flows and exposed lava pools.

Villager Behavior

The trader behaves like a villager:

• It looks at nearby players.
• It can open doors and navigate around obstacles.
• It wanders during parts of the day.
• It seeks a home and bed later in the day.
• It can work and resupply trades.
• It may panic when threatened.

Enclose the trader in a well-lit, accessible stall to prevent it from wandering into danger while leaving enough room for it to move and work.

Transformations

The Nether Trader can transform under the same dangers that affect villagers:

• A lightning strike can turn it into a witch on non-Peaceful difficulties.
• A fatal attack from a zombie or husk can turn it into a zombie villager. On Normal difficulty this has a 50% chance; on Hard difficulty it is guaranteed.
• Its trade level is preserved when it becomes a zombie villager.

When killed by a player, the Nether Trader can drop:
