Quickstart

1. Craft a Rift Beacon at a crafting table using the recipe below. Bring your usual combat gear for your first trial: the Rift Scepter requires Rift Essence, which trials reward.
2. Hold the beacon and use it to start a trial at your current position. It summons undead nearby; defeat every enemy in each wave.
3. Stay in the same dimension and within 64 blocks of where you started. Clear waves to earn Rift Essence, then craft a Rift Scepter and its ammunition for your next fight.
4. Equip the scepter in your main hand and keep Rift Scepter Magazines in your inventory or offhand. Aim at an enemy and use the scepter to fire.

Overview

Rift Trials are three-wave fights against zombies and skeletons. The Rift Beacon starts a trial where you stand; it is an item to use, not a block to place. The Rift Scepter fires a violet beam at enemies in your line of sight.

What It Adds

How To Use

Use the beacon while holding it to begin. The action bar shows your current wave and the number of enemies remaining. Waves contain 3, 4, then 5 enemies, spawning around the starting location.

The trial ends if you move more than 64 blocks from the start or change dimensions. After a trial ends, the beacon is ready to use again.

Crafting And Obtaining

Craft these items at a crafting table:

Rift Beacon — 4 obsidian, 4 ender eyes, and 1 amethyst shard.

Rift Scepter — 1 amethyst shard, 1 Rift Essence, and 1 blaze rod.

Rift Scepter Magazine — 1 iron ingot and 1 copper ingot make 16 magazines.

Rift Essence is earned by clearing waves: 1 for each cleared wave, plus 3 for completing the trial. A full victory awards 6 Rift Essence total.

Abilities And Mechanics

The Rift Scepter fires one shot per use. Each shot deals 8 damage and can reach targets up to 36 blocks away. Aim at an enemy and use the scepter again for another shot; blocks stop its beam.

Keep magazines in your inventory or offhand to supply ammunition.

Progression And Strategy

Clear your first wave with your normal weapons to earn Rift Essence for crafting the scepter. The action bar tracks enemies, so keep fighting until the wave is clear and the next one begins. Stay near the beacon’s starting point, and avoid dying or leaving the area before the trial is complete.
