Description
Craft a rocket, survive the Moon and Mars, and explore alien terrain, ruins, and hostile creatures.
Mod Wiki
Luner Exploration
Quickstart
- Build a rocket. Craft Steel Plates in batches of four. You’ll need 12 total: two for a Rocket Engine, two for a Rocket Assembly Bench, and eight for assembling the rocket. Place the bench and interact with it while carrying the engine and eight plates to receive a Lunar Rocket placer.
- Prepare life support. Craft a Pressure Suit and equip it in your chest slot. Bring several Oxygen Canisters in your inventory, along with Rocket Fuel. Craft a Mission Tablet too; it provides build instructions and a life-support status check.
- Fly to the Moon. Use the Lunar Rocket placer on a block to place your rocket, then interact with the rocket to board. Follow the on-screen Tap: Launch / land prompt; jump, use, or attack/tap to trigger it, depending on your controls. Launching consumes Rocket Fuel.
- Explore and plan your return. Each Oxygen Canister supports about 30 seconds in a frontier when you’re wearing your suit. Moonlings can drop Lunar Crystals and a rare Rusted Data Core; Crater Stalkers drop Chitin. Make Advanced Rocket Fuel for the return journey, and save enough resources for a Planetary Chart and Martian Fuel Cell if you want to reach Mars.
Overview
Luner Exploration sends you from the Overworld to two hostile frontiers. Explore lunar and Martian landscapes, search their generated ruins, gather materials from alien creatures, and use fuel and navigation items to travel between worlds.
Your main progression runs through rocket assembly and lunar survival, then through gathering Moon resources to unlock chart-guided travel to Mars.
What It Adds
- Lunar Frontier: Lunar Plains, Crater Highlands, Glassfall Basin, and Basalt Riftlands, with scattered relay ruins.
- Martian Frontier: Rustwind Dunes, Canyon Tablelands, and Frostline Caps, with scattered research ruins.
- Rocket and mission gear: Lunar Rocket, Rocket Engine, Rocket Assembly Bench, Pressure Suit, Oxygen Canister, Mission Tablet, and Planetary Chart.
- Resources: Steel Plates, Rocket Fuel, Advanced Rocket Fuel, Lunar Crystals, Crater Chitin, Rusted Data Cores, and Martian Fuel Cells.
- Hostile creatures: Moonlings and Crater Stalkers on the lunar frontier; Rust Marauders on Mars.
How To Use
Rocket travel
Place a Lunar Rocket using its placer, then interact with it to board. Use the displayed Launch / land action to travel. Rocket Fuel is used for a lunar launch; Advanced Rocket Fuel is required to return from the Moon. On Mars, use the Planetary Chart to choose your next transfer or return to Earth.
Mission Tablet and Planetary Chart
Use the Mission Tablet to open Mission Control. Its options include build instructions, life-support status, and planetary navigation. Use a Planetary Chart directly to open navigation.
The chart offers Moon and Mars expeditions and a return-to-Earth option. It is reusable, but transfers consume the required fuel:
- Moon expedition: Requires Rocket Fuel from the Overworld, or a Martian Fuel Cell when traveling from Mars. You must have made your first lunar landing to use chart navigation for later trips.
- Mars expedition: Requires a prior lunar landing, a Pressure Suit, an Oxygen Canister, and a Martian Fuel Cell.
- Return to Earth: From either frontier, requires Advanced Rocket Fuel.
Life support
Wear the Pressure Suit in your chest slot and carry Oxygen Canisters in your inventory. In either frontier, one canister is consumed about every 30 seconds while suited. The action bar shows your lunar oxygen countdown. Without a suit, vacuum exposure deals damage rapidly; without oxygen canisters, you take damage as your oxygen runs out.
Crafting And Obtaining
Craft the listed recipes at a crafting table. Recipe images open the full recipe when hovered over or tapped.
| Item | Recipe or obtaining method |
|---|---|
| Steel Plate — yields 4 | |
| Rocket Engine | |
| Rocket Assembly Bench | |
| Pressure Suit | |
| Oxygen Canister — yields 2 | |
| Rocket Fuel — yields 2 | |
| Mission Tablet | |
| Advanced Rocket Fuel | |
| Martian Fuel Cell | |

To assemble the Lunar Rocket, interact with a placed Rocket Assembly Bench while carrying 1 Rocket Engine and 8 Steel Plates. The bench consumes those items and gives you a Lunar Rocket placer.
Mine Moon Regolith with a shovel and Moonstone with a pickaxe. Defeat Moonlings for Lunar Crystals and a chance at a Rusted Data Core. Crater Stalkers drop Crater Chitin when killed by a player. Rust Marauders on Mars can also drop Rusted Data Cores.
Abilities And Mechanics
- Moonlings are small hostile creatures. Their drops provide Lunar Crystals and a chance at the data core needed for a Planetary Chart.
- Crater Stalkers are hostile lunar creatures that can climb. Their Chitin is used to craft Martian Fuel Cells.
- Rust Marauders roam Mars in groups and burn in daylight. They can drop Rusted Data Cores.
- A Planetary Chart needs a Mission Tablet, Lunar Crystal, and Rusted Data Core. A Martian Fuel Cell needs Advanced Rocket Fuel, Crater Chitin, and a Steel Plate.
- Frontier terrain includes varied plains, ridges, basins, dunes, canyons, and icy highlands. Ruins are scattered across both worlds.
Progression And Strategy
- Craft the rocket, suit, canisters, and Rocket Fuel before your first launch. Bring extra canisters so you have time to explore.
- On the Moon, gather Lunar Crystals and hunt Crater Stalkers for Chitin. Keep searching for a Rusted Data Core to make a Planetary Chart.
- Make Advanced Rocket Fuel for your return. To continue to Mars, craft a Martian Fuel Cell and use the chart.
- Keep a separate Advanced Rocket Fuel for the trip from Mars back to Earth. The fuel used to craft a Martian Fuel Cell is consumed in that recipe, and the return transfer needs Advanced Rocket Fuel of its own.
