Quickstart

1. Load into your world — you spawn on a superflat Overworld and the charm It's About to Rain is already in your hotbar slot 1.
2. Right-click the charm to start the rain survival loop. A 2-second cooldown applies between uses.
3. Watch the sky: blocks, items, and mobs begin falling around you — including literal cats and wolves.
4. Collect everything that lands, mine the blue Solidified Rainwater blocks that form underfoot, and survive.
5. Keep triggering rain sessions to accumulate XP and level up, unlocking progressively better loot from the sky.
6. Right-click the charm again at any time to stop the rain.

Overview

Its Raining Cats And Dogs is a superflat survival challenge mod. The normal path to progression — mining, crafting trees, exploring — is replaced by a single mechanic: summon rain storms that shower the area with resources, mobs, and structures. Everything you need to reach and defeat the Ender Dragon must fall from the sky.

The world starts completely flat. All your gear, building materials, portal frames, and even the End portal itself will arrive during rain events at the appropriate level.

How To Use

The Charm

Hold It's About to Rain and right-click to toggle the storm:

• First click — starts a rain event. The action bar shows live progress and your current rain level.
• Second click — stops the rain early.
• The charm cannot be used outside the Overworld. In the Nether or End, vanilla weather rules apply.

Rain Events

While a storm is active, a variety of content showers down around you:

• Blocks — stone, wood, ores, and higher-tier materials depending on your level.
• Dropped items — tools, food, gear, and other loot.
• Mobs — vanilla creatures including cats and wolves/dogs fall from the sky.
• Falling Rainwater — rains down continuously, solidifies on impact into mineable Solidified Rainwater blocks.
• Sky-fallen structures — at higher levels, entire pre-built structures drop into your world.

The action bar displays your current rain progress in real time. Each completed storm session earns rain XP toward the next level.

Commands

All players can check status and toggle rain via command. Setting the level requires operator permissions (level 2).

Abilities And Mechanics

Solidified Rainwater

• Forms wherever Falling Rainwater lands, building up layers across the flat terrain over time.
• Low strength (softer than stone) and glass-like sound — mine it quickly with any tool.
• Very slippery (slipperiness 0.9) — watch your footing on large accumulations.
• Drops itself when mined, so it can be collected and used as a building block.

Rain XP and Leveling

Each completed storm session accumulates rain XP. When you hit the XP threshold for your current level, you advance to the next one. XP requirements increase with each tier:

At level 4 and above, storms escalate to thunderstorm intensity.

Progression And Strategy

The five rain levels define a clear path from fists-and-dirt to Ender Dragon:

Tips

• Prioritise early shelter. Mobs fall alive and are hostile — a simple wall buys you breathing room.
• Mine Solidified Rainwater between storms. It piles up fast and the flat terrain can become dangerously slippery. It also doubles as free building material.
• Let structures land safely. Sky-fallen structures at levels 2+ can crush you if you stand underneath.
• Use /raincats status to track your exact XP and plan when you're close to a level threshold.
• Don't rush to The End early. End portal shrines only appear at level 5 — focus on surviving and leveling up rather than searching for a portal.
• After defeating the Ender Dragon, return to the Overworld to claim the You Beat Cats And Dogs challenge advancement.
