Iron Vein Cleaver

Quickstart

1. Find a cleaver in the Creative inventory by searching for Vein Cleaver, or craft a Wooden Vein Cleaver at a crafting table.
2. Equip it in your main hand.
3. Mine one log. Connected logs of the same wood type are cleared automatically.
4. Take the cleaver underground and mine one ore block. Connected blocks of that ore are mined automatically, including matching normal and deepslate ores.
5. Collect the drops and check the cleaver’s durability after large trees or ore deposits.

The effect activates automatically when you mine a supported block; no additional button or item interaction is required.

Overview

Iron Vein Cleaver adds seven single-use tools with tree-clearing and ore-vein-mining abilities:

• Netherite Vein Cleaver

Each cleaver is a non-stackable hand tool that can also be used against regular axe- and pickaxe-type blocks.

Cleavers are enchantable as pickaxe-slot tools.

How To Use

Clear a tree

Hold any Vein Cleaver in your main hand and mine a log. The cleaver automatically mines connected logs belonging to the same wood type.

• Normal and stripped logs of the same type count as one connected type.
• Only blocks connected through the six cardinal directions are included.
• Leaves and other tree blocks are not directly cleared by the vein effect.
• A tree vein can contain up to 512 additional log blocks per activation.
• Nether crimson and warped stems can be mined with the cleavers, but they do not trigger the automatic log-vein effect.

Mine an ore vein

Mine any ore block while holding a cleaver. Connected blocks of the same ore type are mined automatically.

• Normal and deepslate versions of the same ore are treated as the same type.
• The effect works with ore blocks such as coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis lazuli, diamond, emerald, and Nether gold.
• Connected ancient debris is also recognized as an ore vein.
• Diagonal blocks are not included unless they are connected through another cardinal neighbor.
• An ore vein can contain up to 256 additional blocks per activation.

The blocks broken by the effect use normal block destruction, so their drops are produced normally.

Durability

In Survival, the cleaver loses durability as it breaks blocks. A large tree or ore vein can consume many durability points in one use. If the cleaver reaches zero durability, it breaks.

Creative players do not lose durability.

Crafting And Obtaining

All recipes are crafted at a crafting table. Each recipe produces one cleaver.

Wooden Vein Cleaver

The standard recipe uses five oak planks and two sticks.

The same Wooden Vein Cleaver can also be crafted with five planks of any of these wood types:

Every Wooden Vein Cleaver has the same item name and properties regardless of which plank variant was used.

Stone Vein Cleaver

Uses five cobblestone and two sticks.

Copper Vein Cleaver

Uses five copper ingots and two sticks.

Iron Vein Cleaver

Uses five iron ingots and two sticks.

Golden Vein Cleaver

Uses five gold ingots and two sticks.

Diamond Vein Cleaver

Uses five diamonds and two sticks.

Netherite Vein Cleaver

The Netherite Vein Cleaver upgrades a Diamond Vein Cleaver. It uses four netherite ingots, one Diamond Vein Cleaver, and two sticks.

Abilities And Mechanics

• The cleaver effect starts with the block you mine.
• Connected matching blocks are searched in the six directions: up, down, north, south, east, and west.
• Different wood types and different ore types are not combined into one vein.
• Normal and deepslate versions of an ore are combined when they represent the same ore.
• A tree cascade is limited to 512 additional blocks.
• An ore cascade is limited to 256 additional blocks.
• The initial block is mined by your normal tool action; the connected blocks are destroyed automatically.
• The effect works with every cleaver tier.

Progression And Strategy

• Start with the Wooden Vein Cleaver as soon as you have planks and sticks.
• Upgrade to stone or copper for better durability and faster mining.
• Iron, diamond, and netherite cleavers are better choices for repeated large-tree clearing and large ore deposits.
• Golden cleavers mine quickly but have very low durability, making them better for short tasks.
• Carry the appropriate repair material when clearing large areas.
• Wooden cleavers repair with oak planks even when they were crafted using another plank type.
• For maximum efficiency, begin mining from a log or ore block that is part of the connected section you want to remove.
