Griffin Ravager
Quickstart
- Find a Griffin Ravager spawning naturally in plains, savanna, extreme hills, or meadow biomes — it appears alone or in pairs.
- Have raw mutton (or cooked mutton) in your hand and right-click / use the Interact with Griffin Ravager prompt to attempt taming. Each feeding has about a 1-in-3 chance of success; keep trying until hearts appear.
- Once tamed, mount it by interacting with it (no saddle required). It will follow you and fight alongside you.
- To direct its aggression, simply punch any enemy — your Griffin Ravager will immediately attack that target.
Overview
The Griffin Ravager is a powerful tameable mob that blends the bulk of a Ravager with griffin-like wings and talons. In the wild it is a dangerous predator, but a tamed Griffin Ravager becomes a fiercely loyal combat mount that will charge at whatever threatens you or your attacks.
What It Adds
- Griffin Ravager — a large, rideable, tameable mob with custom animations (walking, roaring, biting, stunned, and idle mouth movements).
- Griffin Ravager Spawn Egg — available in Creative mode to spawn one instantly.
How To Use
Finding One
Griffin Ravagers spawn naturally on grass surfaces in plains, savanna, extreme hills, and meadow biomes, in groups of 1–2, at light levels 0–7 (low-light conditions). They spawn on Easy through Hard difficulty.
Taming
Hold raw mutton or cooked mutton and interact with a wild Griffin Ravager. Each attempt has roughly a 33% chance of success. Failed attempts consume the mutton without taming, so bring several pieces. Hearts and a tamed state confirm success.
Riding
After taming, walk up to your Griffin Ravager and interact to mount it. One player can ride at a time. The mount moves at a notably fast speed. Interact again (or sneak, depending on your control scheme) to dismount.
Combat Companion
A tamed Griffin Ravager will:
- Follow you at all times, teleporting to you if it falls too far behind.
- Attack any entity you hit — punch a mob or player and your Griffin Ravager joins the fight.
- Defend you — if something attacks you, it will retaliate automatically.
- Defend itself — it will fight back against anything that harms it (except other Griffin Ravagers and its owner).
Wild Behaviour
Untamed Griffin Ravagers are hostile toward players, iron golems, wandering traders, and adult villagers within a 16-block radius. They will also retaliate against anything that hits them. Approach with caution until you are ready to tame one.
Drops
Killing a Griffin Ravager always drops:
| Item | Amount | Looting Bonus |
|---|
| Feathers | 2–5 | +0–2 |
| Raw Mutton (cooked if on fire) | 1–3 | +0–1 |
| Leather | 1–3 | +0–1 |
| Gold Nuggets | 2–6 | +0–2 |
Player kills only (chance-based):
| Item | Base Chance | Looting Bonus | Amount |
|---|
| Nether Brick (talon trophy) | ~30% | +10% per level | 1–2 |
| Saddle | ~20% | +8% per level | 1 |
Tip: The saddle drop means hunting wild Griffin Ravagers is a way to obtain saddles without finding them in loot chests.
Progression And Strategy
- Early taming: Gather at least 5–6 raw mutton before approaching, to account for failed taming attempts.
- Combat mount: Once tamed, the Griffin Ravager dramatically increases your combat power — it has a long detection range (24 blocks) for defending you and requires no manual targeting beyond a single punch.
- Fire bonus: If you kill a Griffin Ravager while it is on fire (e.g., using Fire Aspect), the mutton it drops will be cooked automatically.
- Looting enchantment on your sword increases all loot yields, including the chances of rare talon and saddle drops.
- The Griffin Ravager's teleport follow behaviour means it will never get permanently lost, making it reliable in complex terrain.
