Introducing Fat Catnap - a hostile fireball-slinging terror that attacks everything in sight!
Mod Wiki
Fat Catnap
Quickstart
- Open your creative inventory and search for the Fat Catnap Spawn Egg.
- Place it in your world (or use
/summon com_fat_catnap_ryerydrc:mysniffer in a command block or chat) to bring one to life.
- Keep your distance — Fat Catnap is hostile and will start lobbing fireballs at you and nearby mobs almost immediately.
- Defeat it to collect gunpowder, fire charges, and rare seed drops.
Overview
Fat Catnap is a large, oversized sniffer-like creature that has turned hostile. Instead of peacefully sniffing out ancient seeds, this bloated beast prowls the world hurling fireballs at anything that gets close — players and other mobs alike. It can also spawn naturally in the world, appearing in small packs in dark surface areas.
What It Adds
- Fat Catnap — a hostile, fireball-throwing monster with the appearance of a plump, oversized sniffer.
- A dedicated Fat Catnap Spawn Egg for creating the creature on demand.
- Natural spawning behavior so Fat Catnap can appear unprompted in the world.
- Unique loot drops tied to its fire-based nature.
How To Use
- Spawning it yourself: Use the Fat Catnap Spawn Egg from your inventory, or summon it with commands, to place one anywhere you like.
- Encountering it in the wild: Fat Catnap spawns naturally on the surface in dim light (light level 7 or lower), typically in overworld biomes away from oceans and magma. It tends to appear in small groups of 1–2.
- Combat: Fat Catnap actively hunts down players and other hostile/passive mobs within a wide radius, targeting anything it can see. It attacks from range with fireballs, so use cover, block its line of sight, or close the distance quickly to avoid being burned. It's also immune to fire, so fire-based counterattacks won't work against it.
- Interacting: Right-clicking it triggers a simple interaction, though it offers no trading or taming — it remains hostile at all times.
Crafting And Obtaining
Fat Catnap cannot be crafted. It is obtained by:
- Using the Fat Catnap Spawn Egg from the creative menu.
- Encountering it through natural world spawning.
- Summoning it via commands using its identifier
com_fat_catnap_ryerydrc:mysniffer.
Abilities And Mechanics
- Ranged Fireball Attacks: Fat Catnap's primary attack is throwing fireballs at targets within its attack range, dealing fire damage and igniting the area.
- Aggressive Targeting: It actively seeks out and attacks players and nearly any other mob it can see within a large radius, making it dangerous to approach carelessly.
- Retaliation: If struck by another mob, Fat Catnap will turn and fight back even if that mob wasn't its original target.
- Sturdy and Tough: With a large health pool and immunity to fire, Fat Catnap can absorb punishment and survive being caught in its own flames.
- Mobility: It wanders, climbs, and swims across terrain, and can path over water while avoiding damaging blocks like lava.
Progression And Strategy
Fat Catnap is best approached as a mid-tier threat: powerful enough to punish careless players with ranged fire damage, but manageable with cover and quick melee engagement. Defeating it rewards:
- Gunpowder (common drop, useful for crafting)
- Fire Charges (moderate chance)
- Torchflower Seeds or Pitcher Pods (uncommon chance, useful for farming decorative plants)
- Sniffer Eggs (rare drop, only when killed by a player) — letting you hatch a normal, peaceful sniffer of your own despite Fat Catnap's fiery nature.
Because of its wide detection range and persistent targeting, it's best fought in open areas where you can dodge fireballs, or lured into terrain that blocks its line of sight before closing in for melee kills.
