Chain the nearly slain, then unleash a devastating explosion to erase them and their loot.
Mod Wiki
Dusk Epitaph
Quickstart
- Obtain Dusk Epitaph from the Creative inventory under Equipment, or use:
/give @s charter:dusk_epitaph - Equip it in your main hand.
- Strike a living target until its health falls below five hearts. Dusk Epitaph catches the nearly lethal target, restores it to 1 health, and chains it in place.
- Detonate the chain in either of these ways:
- Hold the Use button while holding Dusk Epitaph, then release it.
- Strike the chained target again with Dusk Epitaph.
- Keep valuable dropped items away from the detonation point. The shockwave removes item entities close to its center.
Overview
Dusk Epitaph is a powerful execution sword. It does not simply kill weakened targets: it suspends one nearly slain target at its location, then lets you trigger a large, block-safe shockwave that erases the target and nearby dropped items.

How To Use
Chaining a Target
Attack a living entity with Dusk Epitaph. If the hit leaves the target with less than 10 health points, it becomes chained.
A chained target:
- Is held at the location where it was captured.
- Is reduced to 1 health.
- Is heavily slowed and protected from damage.
- Cannot continue moving normally while the chain is active.
- Remains bound to the player who captured it.
Each player can maintain one chained target at a time. Capturing another target releases the previous one.
Detonating the Chain
With a target bound, hold the sword's Use button. The bow-style use animation begins, and your movement is slowed while you channel the ability. Release the button to detonate the target.
For a faster detonation, hit the same chained target again with Dusk Epitaph.
The blast:
- Removes the chained target.
- Expands as a spherical shockwave up to 56 blocks from the detonation point.
- Pushes nearby entities and dropped items away from the center.
- Removes dropped item entities within roughly 10 blocks of the center.
- Does not break blocks.
- Produces a visible expanding effect for about 36 ticks, or 1.8 seconds.
- Displays a message using the target's name:
'<target>'s Existence was Repurposed.
The chained target is removed rather than killed through a normal death, so it does not leave its usual loot.
Releasing a Target Safely
To cancel a chain without detonating it, switch to an empty main hand and punch the chained target. A living target is released and returns to normal behavior.
If you are actively holding the Use button, switching away from Dusk Epitaph ends the channel and detonates the bound target instead. Release the channel intentionally when you want the explosion.
Crafting And Obtaining
Dusk Epitaph is crafted at a crafting table from a Netherite Scrap, a Netherite Ingot, and a Netherite Sword:

It can also be obtained directly from the Creative inventory or with /give @s charter:dusk_epitaph.
Repair it with Netherite Ingots. Each ingot restores 508 durability.
Abilities And Mechanics
One-Heart Capture
The chain activates only when the target has less than five hearts after the strike. The sword can catch a hit that would otherwise finish the target, allowing you to detonate it instead.
Targets with 20 health points generally require two ordinary hits from the 9-damage sword before they can be chained.
Binding Protection
While bound, the target is kept at 1 health and repeatedly pinned to its capture position. This gives you time to decide when and where to trigger the epitaph.
Channel Lightning
While channeling the detonation, lightning periodically strikes the wielder's position. Dusk Epitaph protects its wielder from this channeling effect.
Block-Safe Shockwave
The detonation is destructive to entities and dropped items, not terrain. It creates a large spherical knockback wave without breaking the surrounding blocks.
Progression And Strategy
- Use a sturdy target when testing the sword so you can deliberately bring it below five hearts.
- Capture targets away from chests, farms, and valuable dropped items.
- Detonate in an open area when you want the shockwave to throw entities clear.
- Do not use the ability on a target whose normal loot you want to collect.
- Remember that a second strike detonates only when it hits your currently chained target; striking another weakened target can replace the existing chain.
- Keep Netherite Ingots available for repairs, especially when using the sword frequently in combat.
