Quickstart

1. Install the .mcaddon and enable both the Behavior and Resource packs for your world.
2. Head to an ocean, river, beach, or swamp biome and explore at night — Dartpoles spawn naturally in low-light conditions near water.
3. Alternatively, use a Dartpole Spawn Egg (dark green with teal spots) from the Creative inventory to spawn one instantly.
4. Watch out — it will immediately lock onto you and rocket through the air at high speed. Keep your distance or come armed.

Overview

Dartpole is a hostile mob add-on that introduces a single aggressive creature: the Dartpole, a bullet-shaped tadpole that launches itself through the air toward players at alarming speed. Despite its aquatic origins, it flies rather than swims when pursuing prey, making it a uniquely dangerous threat in and around watery biomes.

How To Use

Encountering Dartpoles Dartpoles spawn naturally at night (light level 0–7) above water in ocean, river, beach, and swamp biomes, usually in groups of 1–3. They appear between Y 50 and Y 72 and are classified as monsters, so difficulty must be set to Easy or higher for natural spawning.

Combat The moment a Dartpole spots you within 32 blocks it switches into pursuit mode. It flies directly at you using its aerodynamic movement, dealing 4 damage per hit with a very short attack cooldown. It has 20 HP and moderate knockback resistance, so a few hits won't easily stagger it off course. Back away quickly or use ranged weapons — its speed multiplier during attacks makes melee dangerous.

Interaction You can interact with a Dartpole (tap/right-click). Like a normal tadpole it can be fed slimeballs to accelerate its growth. If left alone long enough (about 60 seconds), a Dartpole will mature and transform into a standard Frog.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Aerial pursuit — The Dartpole flies through the air and can navigate over water. It ignores gravity and is immune to fall damage.
• High-speed attack — During a melee charge its movement speed is multiplied by 3.5×, making it very fast when closing in.
• Wide detection — Scans for players up to 32 blocks away in all directions, including vertically (32-block height scan).
• Panic flight — When badly threatened it can flee at 4× normal speed.
• Amphibious — Breathes both air and water; can swim as well as fly.
• Lava vulnerability — Takes 4 damage per tick in lava.
• Growth — Feeding it slimeballs speeds up maturation; it eventually transforms into a Frog.

Defeating a Dartpole can yield the following:

The Nautilus Shell is the rarest and most valuable drop, so bring a Looting-enchanted sword if you're farming them.

Progression And Strategy

• Early game: Dartpoles hit hard and move fast. Engage from range with a bow, or use the water surface to your advantage — they may overshoot while flying.
• Looting sword: The two rarest drops (Ink Sac and Nautilus Shell) are chance-based and significantly improved by Looting, making an enchanted sword the best tool for farming.
• Slimeball farming: Killing Dartpoles yields slimeballs even in biomes where slimes don't normally spawn, making them a useful early slime source near oceans and rivers.
• Gunpowder source: Their bullet-theme drops make them a supplemental gunpowder farm in aquatic areas.
• Watch the skies: Because they fly, Dartpoles can pursue you across open water and up cliffsides — don't assume you're safe just because you left the shoreline.
