Mod Wiki
Chunkbreaker Pickaxe
Quickstart
- Craft the Chunkbreaker Pickaxe with four stone and two sticks. The recipe is shapeless and becomes available in the recipe book after joining a world.

- Equip the pickaxe and break any block. The entire 16×16 chunk column containing that block is mined from the world's minimum Y level to its maximum Y level.
- Right-click while holding the pickaxe to scan for ores within 32 blocks. The results appear in chat.
- In Creative mode, find it in the Tools & Utilities tab, or use:
/give @s chunkbreaker-pickaxe-7pahr7k3:chunkbreaker_pickaxe_7pahr7k3
Use it in an expendable area first—the pickaxe can remove nearly an entire chunk column in one operation.
Overview
The Chunkbreaker Pickaxe is a single-stack pickaxe designed for large-scale excavation. Its primary action mines a complete chunk column, while its right-click action searches a nearby area for ore.
Every successful chunk-breaking action also grants temporary effects. Scanning an area with no detected ore instead puts you at risk from nearby hostile mobs.
What It Adds
- Chunkbreaker Pickaxe — an iron-grade pickaxe that can mine a whole chunk column.
- Ore scanner — detects nearby coal, copper, diamond, emerald, gold, iron, lapis, and redstone ores.
- Chunk-breaking effects — grants temporary regeneration and slowness after mining.
- Empty-scan danger — if a scan finds no ores, hostile mobs can deal double damage for a short time.
How To Use
Mining a Chunk
Hold the pickaxe and break a block normally. The block's chunk is determined by the block you break, not necessarily the chunk where you are standing.
The pickaxe then attempts to destroy every non-air block in that chunk's full vertical column. Eligible blocks drop their normal drops. Blocks with block entities, such as chests and similar utility blocks, are skipped.
The sweep can also destroy bedrock if bedrock is present in the column.
Scanning for Ores
Right-click with the pickaxe to scan the area centered on your current position. The scan covers blocks up to 32 blocks away horizontally and vertically.
If ores are found, the pickaxe sends a chat report listing each detected ore type and its total count. The scan does not require the ores to be visible.
The scan has a 16-second cooldown. Attempting to scan again during the cooldown fails.
Crafting And Obtaining
The pickaxe is crafted from:
- 4 stone
- 2 sticks
The recipe is shapeless, so the ingredients can be placed in any arrangement in the crafting grid. The item can also be obtained from the Creative Tools & Utilities tab or with its /give command.
Abilities And Mechanics
Chunk Sweep
- Covers a full 16×16 chunk.
- Extends from the world's minimum Y level through its maximum Y level.
- Breaks eligible non-air blocks and supplies their drops.
- Skips blocks with block entities.
- Can break bedrock.
Mining Effects
After a successful chunk-breaking action, you receive:
- Slowness I for 16 seconds.
- Regeneration III for 16 seconds.
- A 5% chance of also receiving Mining Fatigue I for 16 seconds.
Bedrock Durability Cost
If the sweep reaches and breaks bedrock, the pickaxe's damage is set to at least half of its maximum durability. If it was already more worn than that, its existing damage is retained.
Empty Ore Scans
If the scan finds no ores, you receive a warning in chat and hostile mobs deal double damage to you for 16 seconds.
This damage effect applies to attacks from hostile mobs within 32 blocks of you. Finding ores does not trigger this penalty. The effect ends automatically after 16 seconds.
Progression And Strategy
- Test the pickaxe in a remote or disposable chunk before using it near a base.
- Use the scanner before excavating to check whether a nearby area contains useful ore.
- Treat an empty scan as a danger signal: hostile mobs nearby become significantly more threatening for 16 seconds.
- Leave valuable storage and utility blocks outside the target chunk when possible, since block-entity blocks are not removed by the sweep.
- Expect slowness after mining and avoid starting a chunk sweep while escaping enemies.
- Be especially cautious when the target column contains bedrock, as the sweep causes a major durability loss.
