Quickstart

1. Find Lotus Flowers growing in wetlands, or craft Lotus Petals from vanilla Pink Petals (2 petals per craft).
2. Break a Lotus Flower to get Lotus Petals, then craft a Wisdom Lotus by surrounding a gold nugget with four Lotus Petals.
3. Craft a Bodhi Altar and place it near a village. Right-click the altar while holding 3 Lotus Petals to receive a Wisdom Lotus, bonus XP, and a saturation buff.
4. Eat a Wisdom Lotus to gain Regeneration, Resistance, Night Vision, and bonus XP.
5. Craft and place a Meditation Throne, then sit on it to begin shaping your Karma Score.
6. Run /bodhi guide in chat at any time for an in-game walkthrough.

Overview

Bodhi Wisdom Guardians brings a calm, spiritual progression layer to Minecraft. The journey begins in the wetlands, gathering lotus flowers, and leads through crafting sacred tools and offerings at Bodhi Altars, building Temple Gardens, and meditating to shape your karma. Monks wander temple grounds and tend garden plots. A universal Karma Score and Player Anger Reset system ties everything together—dying resets hostility with villagers and the Bodhi system alike, and respawning grants a 20-second peace window so you can get back on your feet.

Blocks

Buddha Statues: Shakyamuni, Maitreya, Vairocana, Amitabha, Akshobhya, Ratnasambhava, Amoghasiddhi, Bhaisajyaguru (Medicine Buddha), and Budai / Hotei (Laughing Buddha). Each is crafted with Stone, a colour of dye, and Lotus Petals (see Crafting below). All statues are mined with a pickaxe and drop themselves.

Entities

Monks spawn in and around Bodhi Temples, tending garden plots and cherry blossom trees. There are nine named monk types (one per Buddha) plus Saffron Temple Monks and Lotus Temple Monks who inhabit temples near villages. Monks can also be summoned with their respective spawn eggs in Creative mode.

How To Use

Bodhi Altar

Place the altar and right-click it while holding at least 3 Lotus Petals in your main or off hand. The altar consumes 3 petals and gives you a Wisdom Lotus, a short Saturation effect, and 8 XP. It also records an offering to your karma ledger.

Wisdom Lotus (consumable)

Eat it to receive Regeneration, Resistance, Night Vision, and bonus experience. It is a single-use item.

Meditation Throne

Craft and place the throne, then sit on it to enter meditation. While meditating, time passes normally for the world but nearby entities rest. Meditating shifts your Karma Score toward calm and positive karma.

Meditation Beads

Hold Meditation Beads in your hand or sneak with them equipped to accumulate their benefit. The beads degrade with use—they are not infinitely durable.

Bodhi Bell

Right-click to ring the bell, granting yourself Regeneration and Resistance for several seconds. The bell takes durability damage each use and has a short cooldown.

Lotus Wand

Right-click to teleport to the nearest Bodhi Temple near a village. Each use consumes durability and triggers a cooldown, so use it wisely.

Dharma Staff

Held in hand, the staff grants a defensive stance feel. It functions as a melee weapon (sword-class damage).

Buddha Statues

Place any statue in your world for a timed blessing aura. Different statues correspond to different Buddhist figures and dye colours, letting you decorate temples thematically.

Karma Score & Player Anger Reset

Your Karma Score is shaped by offerings at the altar, meditation, and how you treat the world. Negative karma (aggression) causes Bodhi entities to become hostile. When you die, the game treats it as "justice served": all hostile flags are cleared—villager gossip, guard hostility, and Bodhi karma aggression—and you respawn with a 20-second peace window preventing instant re-aggro. Run /bodhi ledger to see your current karma status, cleared hostility, and remaining grace time.

Abilities And Mechanics

Wisdom Lotus Effects

Consuming a Wisdom Lotus immediately applies:

• Regeneration – passive health regen
• Resistance – reduced incoming damage
• Night Vision – see in the dark
• Bonus XP – accelerates your level progression

Bodhi Bell

• Grants Regeneration I and Resistance I for 5 seconds on use.
• Plays a resonant bell sound audible to nearby players.
• Loses 1 durability per use with an ~8-second cooldown.

Lotus Wand Teleportation

Right-clicking the Lotus Wand teleports you to the nearest Bodhi Temple generated close to a village. The wand's durability decreases with each teleport and a cooldown activates afterward.

Meditation Beads Degradation

Meditation Beads wear down whenever you actively meditate while sitting on a Meditation Throne, or while sneaking with the beads in hand. Plan your meditation sessions accordingly.

Tools

Bodhi tools are fully functional members of their vanilla tool categories (pickaxe, axe, hoe, shovel) and degrade normally through use.

Progression And Strategy

1. Early game: Seek out wetland biomes for Lotus Flowers, or look for village-adjacent Pink Petals. Stockpile Lotus Petals as your primary crafting material.
2. First altar: Craft a Wisdom Lotus (4 Lotus Petals + 1 gold nugget), then use it to craft your first Bodhi Altar. Place it near a village so Bodhi Temples can spawn nearby.
3. Positive karma: Use the altar regularly for offerings, meditate on the Meditation Throne, and avoid unnecessary violence near monks. High positive karma keeps Bodhi entities friendly and may yield additional blessings.
4. Temple access: Once a Bodhi Temple spawns near your village, craft a Lotus Wand to teleport between your base and the temple quickly. Explore the temple for monks and garden plots.
5. Statues and blessings: Decorate your base or temple with Buddha Statues for passive timed blessings. Each statue uses a different dye colour, letting you customise your sanctuary.
6. Combat preparation: Before dangerous expeditions, ring the Bodhi Bell for a quick Regeneration + Resistance boost, consume a Wisdom Lotus for night vision and sustained regen, and equip the Karma Sword or Dharma Staff.
7. Death and rebirth: If you die during a conflict, don't panic—your village hostility and karma aggression flags are cleared on death. Use the 20-second grace window after respawning to re-establish yourself peacefully. Check /bodhi ledger to confirm your standing.
8. Enlightenment path: Use /bodhi path, /bodhi rebirth, and /bodhi cosmology to read in-game lore and deepen your understanding of the spiritual system woven through the mod.
