Beyond Oakwood

Quickstart

  1. Build a 4-block-wide by 5-block-high rectangular frame from Oak Wood Planks, leaving a clear 2-by-3 opening.
  2. Use Flint and Steel on one of the frame blocks. The opening fills with an Oakwood Rift; step close to it to travel to WoodLand.
  3. A return portal appears when you arrive. Use it to travel back to the Overworld.
  4. Once in WoodLand, explore the forests and mountains, mine Moonstone Ore and Amber Ore with a pickaxe, and watch for Hollow Zombies after dark in the Darkwood Forest and Forgotten Wilderness.

You can also craft a Woodland Compass to open a travel menu. Its recipe is in Crafting and Obtaining.

Overview

WoodLand is a separate dimension with its own terrain generation and regional landscapes. It includes rolling forests and meadows, high plateaus, rugged mountains, and a surrounding sea. Fog appears in some regions, including the Darkwood Forest and Frostwood Mountains.

The world fills in as you explore, with terrain generation that persists as you travel.

Blocks and Items

WoodLand’s distinct materials include Woodland Soil, Elderstone, Duskstone, Ancient Bark, Moonstone Ore, and Amber Ore. The ores provide Moonstone Shards and Amber Cores, which are used to craft the Moonstone Saber.

How To Use

  • Oakwood Rift: Activate a valid Oak Wood Plank frame with Flint and Steel. The portal interior forms in the opening; approach it to travel. A return portal is made for you after arrival.
  • Woodland Compass: Use it to open a menu with an option to enter WoodLand or return home.
  • Moonstone and Amber Ores: Mine them with a pickaxe to collect their crafting materials.
  • Creative mode: Woodland Mountain Goat and Hollow Zombie spawn eggs are available for placing these creatures directly.

Crafting and Obtaining

Craft a Moonstone Saber at a crafting table using Moonstone Shards, an Amber Core, and a stick:

Moonstone Ore drops Moonstone Shards, and Amber Ore drops Amber Cores. Mine both ores with a pickaxe.

Abilities and Mechanics

  • Woodland Mountain Goat: Look for goats in the Frostwood Mountains. Feed adult goats wheat to breed them; wheat also helps baby goats grow. Use an empty bucket on an adult goat to collect milk. Goats can charge and knock players back, so keep your distance if one lowers its head.
  • Hollow Zombie: These hostile mobs appear at night in Darkwood Forest and Forgotten Wilderness. They burn in daylight and can break doors. They usually drop rotten flesh; a rare drop may be an iron ingot, carrot, or potato.

Progression and Strategy

Start by exploring the Oakwood Forest and Golden Meadows, then gather materials and prepare equipment before traveling into more threatening regions. Mine Moonstone Ore and Amber Ore to make a Moonstone Saber. Take extra care at night in the Darkwood Forest and Forgotten Wilderness, where Hollow Zombies roam.
