Wield unmatched mining power at the cost of crushing slowness—can you handle the burden?
Mod Wiki
Bedrock Burden Pickaxe
Quickstart
- Craft the pickaxe using the recipe below (or grab it from your recipe book — it unlocks automatically when you join the world).
- Equip it in your main hand or offhand.
- Start mining — and immediately notice you feel a lot slower to react. That's the burden talking.

Overview
The Bedrock Burden Pickaxe is a top-tier mining tool built from netherite and blaze rods. It hits like the best pickaxe in the game, but wielding it comes with a severe drawback: it saddles you with an intense Mining Fatigue effect for as long as you hold it. It's a high-risk, high-reward tool for players who want raw mining power but are willing to plan around its penalty.
What It Adds
- Bedrock Burden Pickaxe — a netherite-tier pickaxe with powerful mining stats and high durability, counted as a valid pickaxe for all vanilla purposes (works with enchantments, repair, etc.).
- A crafting recipe that is automatically unlocked for every player, so you don't need to discover it through exploration or achievements.
How To Use
- Equip it in your main hand or offhand — the burden effect applies either way.
- Mine as normal. The pickaxe breaks blocks with netherite-level efficiency and deals netherite-level damage if used as a weapon.
- Manage the fatigue. While holding the pickaxe (in either hand), you continuously receive a very strong Mining Fatigue effect. This dramatically slows your block-breaking speed and melee attack speed, refreshing constantly as long as the pickaxe stays in your hand.
- Swap hands to remove the burden. Move the pickaxe into your inventory or a hotbar slot you aren't holding to stop the effect from reapplying.
- It behaves like any other pickaxe for repairing (netherite ingots or an anvil) and can be enchanted normally.
Crafting And Obtaining
Craft it with netherite ingots and blaze rods:
The recipe is also automatically granted to every player as soon as they join a world, so it will already be sitting in your recipe book — no need to hunt down the crafting pattern yourself.
Abilities And Mechanics
- Netherite-tier mining and damage — matches the best vanilla pickaxe in efficiency and attack power.
- Extreme durability — built to withstand a huge number of uses before breaking.
- Constant Mining Fatigue — while held in either hand, you are repeatedly given a very high level of Mining Fatigue. This effect:
- Massively slows down block breaking speed.
- Reduces attack speed.
- Reapplies continuously while the pickaxe stays equipped, so it never wears off on its own as long as you hold the item.
- Only one at a time — the pickaxe cannot be stacked, so you'll only ever carry a single copy per inventory slot.
Progression And Strategy
- Treat the Bedrock Burden Pickaxe as a specialized tool rather than your everyday pickaxe. Switch to it for big mining sessions where its power outweighs the slowdown, then swap back to a normal pickaxe for quick tasks.
- Pair it with mobility or utility strategies (like mining in short bursts) to offset the fatigue penalty.
- Since it counts as a real pickaxe, you can enchant it with things like Efficiency or Fortune to further boost its mining output — just remember the fatigue effect will still hinder your swing speed regardless of enchantments.
- Keep spare pickaxes on hand for situations where you need to move fast, since the burden effect makes rapid digging or combat while holding this pickaxe impractical.
