Description:
bd Lifesteel turns death into a lasting consequence: each time you die you permanently lose one heart from your health bar and a Heart item drops at your death location; each player's lifesteel heart count is saved and your current health is capped to that stored total, with a one-heart minimum so you can never become unplayable. Recover lost life by crafting Heart Fragments from 4 netherite ingots, 1 glow ink sac, and 2 ghast tears, then combine nine fragments into a Heart — using a Heart restores one missing heart and only works when you are below the normal 10-heart maximum. The result is a tense survival loop of avoiding death, hunting or recovering dropped Hearts, or farming Nether resources to craft fragments and rebuild your life; no extra commands or menus are needed, just gather, craft, and use Hearts.
Mod Wiki
Bd Lifesteel
Quickstart
- Play normally until you die — your heart bar permanently shrinks by one heart, and a Heart item drops at your death location.
- Rush back to your death spot and pick up the dropped Heart before it despawns.
- Hold the Heart in your hand and use it (right-click / hold use) to restore the lost heart instantly.
- If you can't recover a dropped Heart, craft your way back: gather Netherite ingots, Glow Ink Sacs, and Ghast Tears to craft Heart Fragments, then combine nine fragments into a Heart at a crafting table.
Overview
Bd Lifesteel makes every death count. Each time you die, one heart is permanently removed from your maximum health and a Heart item falls at your feet. Your health bar can never drop below a single heart — you will always be able to keep playing — but repeated deaths will leave you dangerously fragile. The only way to recover lost hearts is to reclaim a dropped Heart or craft one from rare Nether materials.
There are no commands, menus, or configuration screens. Everything happens automatically through normal survival play.
What It Adds
| Item | Description |
|---|
| Heart Fragment | Crafting intermediate made from Nether resources. Nine are needed to form a Heart. |
| Heart | The core item. Using one adds a heart back to your maximum health bar. Dropped on death; also craftable. |
Abilities And Mechanics
Losing Hearts
- Every time you die, your stored heart count decreases by 1 and one Heart item is dropped at your location.
- Your current health is immediately capped to your new maximum.
- The minimum is 1 heart — you cannot lose your last heart through dying.
Using a Heart
- Hold a Heart and press Use to consume it.
- One heart is added back to your maximum and your current health increases by the same amount.
- Hearts can only be used while your heart count is below 10 (the normal default maximum). If your bar is already full, you will see a message and the Heart will not be consumed.
- Stacks up to 64, so you can carry many at once.
Heart Bar Limits
- Default maximum: 10 hearts (20 HP).
- Absolute maximum you can hold: 20 hearts (40 HP) — though reaching this requires extensive Heart use after never dying, which is not normally possible without picking up or crafting Hearts beyond your losses.
- Your heart count is saved permanently per player, even across sessions.
Crafting And Obtaining
Getting a Heart Fragment
Craft one Heart Fragment at a crafting table using 4 Netherite Ingots, 1 Glow Ink Sac, and 2 Ghast Tears:
Crafting a Heart
Combine 9 Heart Fragments in a crafting table (fill all 9 slots):
Progression And Strategy
- Recover first, craft second. A dropped Heart is free — always try to retrieve it before it despawns. Crafting one costs 4 Netherite Ingots and 2 Ghast Tears per fragment, times nine.
- Avoid dying at all costs. Each death demands a significant Nether farming investment to undo.
- Go to the Nether prepared. Ghast Tears and Netherite are both dangerous to farm; dying there costs you a heart and your materials.
- Multiplayer tension. Other players can pick up the Heart your death drops. Prioritising your death location over looting can mean the difference between recovering and permanently weakening.
- Plan for the long game. A player who never dies stays at 10 hearts. Every death edges you closer to a fragile, one- or two-heart character where a single mistake is catastrophic.
