Azure Tidecaster

Quickstart

1. Craft the Azure Tidecaster using the recipe below (you also receive it automatically the first time you join a world).
2. Hold it in your hand and right-click (use item) to hurl a bolt of blue flame.
3. Watch it streak toward your target, leaving a trail of soul fire particles, and explode into a splash of water particles on impact.
4. Land a direct hit on a mob or player to deal solid melee-tier damage from range.

Overview

The Azure Tidecaster is a magical throwing weapon that fuses fire and water. Instead of swinging it like a sword, you throw it to launch a fast-moving, soul-fire-wreathed bolt that detonates in a splash of water particles wherever it lands. It's a ranged combat item for players who want ranged burst damage with a watery flair.

What It Adds

• Azure Tidecaster – a single-use-per-throw weapon item that you wield and fling at enemies.
• Tidecaster Bolt – the thrown projectile created when you use the item, trailing soul fire particles in flight and bursting into splash particles on impact.
• A small ambient effect: while the Tidecaster is selected in your hand, it occasionally releases a wisp of soul fire particles even before you throw it.
• If dropped on the ground, the Tidecaster occasionally releases splash particles and can leave a puddle of water on the ground beneath it.

How To Use

• Throwing: Right-click (use item) while holding the Tidecaster to launch a bolt in the direction you're facing. There's a short cooldown between throws.
• On hit: A bolt that strikes a living target deals a solid chunk of direct damage and then bursts into a splash effect.
• On impact with terrain: The bolt disappears in a burst of splash particles even if it hits a block instead of a creature.
• Durability: Each throw uses a small amount of the weapon's durability. It has a generous number of uses before it wears out, but only one Tidecaster can be held at a time (it doesn't stack).
• Melee use: Because it's built on a sword-like base, the Tidecaster can also be swung for a fire-aspect-style melee hit and can be enchanted with weapon, sword, sharpness, and fire aspect enchantments.

Crafting And Obtaining

Craft the Azure Tidecaster with the shaped recipe shown above, combining a fire charge, lapis lazuli, a water bucket, and a blaze rod. You'll also automatically be granted the recipe the first time you spawn into a world with this mod installed, so it will already be unlocked in your recipe book.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Ranged blast: Throwing consumes durability and briefly locks the weapon on cooldown, preventing spam-throwing.
• Splash on impact: Every impact—whether on a mob, player, or block—produces a burst of splash particles, tying into the weapon's watery theme.
• Soul fire trail: Both the thrown bolt and the idle weapon in your hand emit soul fire particles, making it easy to track the bolt's flight path.
• Ground effect: A dropped Tidecaster can spontaneously generate a small puddle of water beneath it over time, so be mindful of where you leave it lying around.

Progression And Strategy

Use the Azure Tidecaster as a burst-damage finisher against approaching enemies before they close the distance, then fall back on melee swings once they're in range. Keep an eye on your cooldown and durability during extended fights, since each throw chips away at both. Because it occupies your hand slot, pair it with quick weapon swaps if you need a dedicated melee weapon for prolonged combat.
