Azure Axolotl Cove

Quickstart

1. Find an underground, water-filled cove with Azure Mud and glowing cove blocks. Mipsys spawn underwater on Azure Mud, while Cove Flutters appear in dark underground areas.
2. Get a Cove Lure and use it near open water to summon Mipsy directly in front of you.
3. Build with any of these sanctuary blocks: Azure Clay, Azure Moss, Azure Crystal Cluster, or Cove Lantern. Stay nearby to discover the Azure Sanctuary and call Azure Axolotls to the area.
4. Use an empty bucket on a Mipsy to carry it safely. Keep Mipsys in water or rain so they do not dry out.
5. Craft a Gill Charm before exploring underwater. Using it grants Water Breathing for 60 seconds and Night Vision for 30 seconds.
6. Craft a Cave Wayfinder and use it to teleport into an open cave below your current position.

Overview

Azure Axolotl Cove adds an underground aquatic environment filled with blue bioluminescent building materials, crystals, aquatic creatures, and cave exploration tools.

The cove’s main companion is Mipsy, a custom axolotl with several color variants. The rare Azure Axolotl variant can support nearby players with regeneration and can fight hostile aquatic mobs. Cove Sentinels guard underwater areas, while Cove Flutters provide peaceful ambient life in dark caves.

The cove palette is suited to underwater gardens, glowing caves, aquatic sanctuaries, and axolotl habitats. Cove Crystals and Mipsy Pearls are especially important for crafting the mod’s exploration and companion items.

How To Use

Cove Lure

Use a Cove Lure while facing an area with open water. It attempts to summon a Mipsy approximately three blocks in front of the player.

• One lure is consumed when the summon succeeds.
• The lure can stack up to 16.
• If the location is blocked or unsuitable, the lure is not consumed.

Cave Wayfinder

Use the Cave Wayfinder while underground or near a cave entrance. It searches downward for an open space with a solid floor and teleports you there.

• It searches below your current position.
• It works in the same dimension.
• One wayfinder is consumed after a successful teleport.
• A blocked route or lack of an open cave leaves the player in place.

Gill Charm

Use the Gill Charm to receive:

• Water Breathing for 60 seconds
• Night Vision for 30 seconds

The charm is not consumed, so it can be reused for repeated underwater expeditions.

Discovering the Azure Sanctuary

Place or find one of the following blocks near an exploration area:

• Azure Clay
• Azure Moss
• Azure Crystal Cluster
• Cove Lantern

When you approach these blocks, the Azure Sanctuary discovery message can appear. If there are not already enough nearby Mipsys, the sanctuary can call in a small group of Azure Axolotls, including a baby.

Mipsys And Azure Axolotls

Finding Mipsys

Mipsys naturally spawn underwater in the Azure Axolotl Cove area, usually on Azure Mud. Adult Mipsys can appear in several axolotl colors, with the Azure variant being uncommon.

Mipsys can also be obtained with:

• A Cove Lure
• A spawn egg from the Creative inventory
• A summon command

Mipsys can be named, leashed, and picked up with an empty bucket.

Caring for Mipsys

Mipsys are amphibious but should be kept in water or rain. On dry land they begin drying out, eventually taking damage. A water-filled enclosure is the safest home for them.

Mipsys can also play dead when badly hurt in water, giving them a chance to recover.

Breeding

Feed Tropical Fish Buckets to two adult Mipsys to breed them.

• The pair produces a baby Mipsy.
• The bucket is converted to a water bucket.
• Baby Mipsys follow their parents and grow over time.
• Breeding can produce the Azure variant.
• Two nearby Azure Axolotls improve the chance of producing an Azure baby.

Azure Axolotl abilities

An Azure Axolotl:

• Attacks drowned, guardians, and elder guardians while they are in water.
• Deals melee damage to hostile aquatic enemies.
• Grants nearby players a continuously refreshed Regeneration effect while they remain close.
• Can trigger an Azure Axolotl blessing when it kills a drowned, guardian, or elder guardian. Players within roughly 10 blocks receive a stronger regeneration effect for 12 seconds.

Keep Azure Axolotls near the center of your aquatic base to benefit from their regeneration aura. They are especially useful when exploring ocean monuments, drowned-filled waterways, and Sentinel-guarded caves.

Cove Creatures

Cove Sentinel

Cove Sentinels are hostile underwater monsters with guardian-like behavior.

• Health: 30
• Attack damage: 5
• Detection range: up to 16 blocks
• Targets players, squid, and axolotls
• Can swim and briefly leave the water
• Becomes less aggressive when a target gets very close, then resumes attacking when the target moves away

Cove Sentinels drop experience when killed by a player. Their drops can include:

• 0–2 Prismarine Shards
• Fish
• Prismarine Crystals
• A very rare additional fishing-related drop

Use Azure Axolotls carefully around Sentinels, since Sentinels actively target axolotls.

Cove Flutter

Cove Flutters are peaceful ambient creatures found in dark underground areas.

• Spawn in groups of 2–4
• Prefer underground caves with very low light
• Can appear in ordinary cave areas and Azure Axolotl Cove areas
• Float and wander through open cave spaces
• Have no regular loot drops

They are useful as atmospheric cave inhabitants and can be spawned with a Creative spawn egg or command.

Crafting And Obtaining

Azure Clay

Craft Azure Clay from Clay Balls and Lapis Lazuli.

Azure Crystal Cluster

Combine a Cove Crystal, Amethyst Shard, and Lapis Lazuli.

Glowing Azure Lily

Combine a Water Lily, Blue Dye, and Glow Berries. The recipe produces two lilies.

Azure Moss

Combine a Moss Block, Blue Dye, and Glow Lichen.

Biolume Sand

Craft four Biolume Sand from four Sand.

Cave Wayfinder

Craft the Cave Wayfinder with Cove Crystals, a Mipsy Pearl, and a Compass.

Cove Lantern

Craft a Cove Lantern with Cove Crystals, Amethyst Shards, and a Mipsy Pearl.

Cove Lure

Craft a Cove Lure with Cove Crystals, Amethyst Shards, and a Mipsy Pearl.

Gill Charm

Craft a Gill Charm with Prismarine Crystals and a Mipsy Pearl.

Pearlstone

Craft four Pearlstone from Stone and a Mipsy Pearl.

Mipsy Pearls

Mipsys drop one or two Mipsy Pearls when they die. Use the pearls to craft the Cove Lure, Cave Wayfinder, Cove Lantern, Gill Charm, and Pearlstone.

Cove Crystals can be found among the cove’s crystal formations and are used in the main exploration and decoration recipes.

Progression And Strategy

1. Find or create a water habitat. Use Azure Mud, Pearlstone, Biolume Sand, Azure Moss, and Azure Lilies to make a safe cove enclosure.
2. Collect Mipsy Pearls. Explore the cove and gather pearls from Mipsys for the mod’s utility items.
3. Make a Gill Charm. Use it to explore underwater caves without constantly returning to the surface.
4. Craft a Cave Wayfinder. Use it to reach deeper cave spaces quickly.
5. Build an Azure Sanctuary. Add Azure Clay, Azure Moss, Azure Crystal Clusters, or Cove Lanterns near your base to attract Azure Axolotls.
6. Protect the sanctuary. Cove Sentinels attack axolotls, so keep your companions in a defended pool or remove Sentinels before bringing them home.
7. Breed Azure Axolotls. Use Tropical Fish Buckets on adult Mipsys and maintain a spacious, water-filled habitat for the growing group.
8. Use the Azure blessing. Bring Azure Axolotls into underwater combat against drowned and guardian-type enemies to benefit from their regeneration effects.
