Avatar Bending Arts
Quickstart
- Join the server — you automatically receive a Bending Choice Scroll in your inventory.
- Right-click the Scroll to open the element chooser UI and pick your path: Water, Earth, Fire, or Air. If the Avatar slot is unclaimed, you may choose The Avatar instead.
- Your choice is permanent until death. Once chosen, right-clicking the scroll shows your current element and stats.
- Open your keybindings (Options → Controls → Avatar Bending Arts) and assign keys to Bending Move 1–24 — these are how you activate abilities.
- Craft a Bending Guide Book (Book + Paper + Lapis Lazuli, shapeless) and right-click it to browse every move available to your element and how to unlock them.
- Start using your moves in the world to earn XP and level up toward the cap of 50.
Overview
Avatar Bending Arts is a deep bending-progression mod inspired by the world of Avatar. On your first join you select a permanent elemental path — Waterbender, Earthbender, Firebender, or Airbender — or claim the unique Avatar role if it is free. Every action you take with your bending earns XP, raises your level, and unlocks more powerful moves. A Chi bar (max 100) fuels every ability, and your bending is shaped by holding right-click and launched by left-click, with power scaling from both Chi and level.
When you die, your element and all transient bending state are cleared and a fresh Bending Choice Scroll appears in your inventory, letting you start a new path.

How To Use
Chi and the Action Bar
Your Chi bar sits at the bottom of the screen (max 100). Every move consumes Chi when activated. Chi regenerates passively over time. Running out of Chi means you cannot use abilities until it recovers.
Activating Moves
- Hold right-click while a move key is pressed to shape your element (wind up, aim, position).
- Left-click to launch or execute an attack — damage and effect scale with both your current Chi and your bending level.
- Up to 24 move slots can be bound in your control settings (Bending Move 1 through Bending Move 24).
Move Slots and the Guide Book
Right-click the Bending Guide Book at any time to open a full reference of every move for your element, including what level each move unlocks. Assign your favourite moves to your 24 keybind slots in whatever order suits your playstyle.
Leveling Up
Use bending abilities in the world to earn XP. Each level from 1 to 50 unlocks new moves. A level-up message appears on screen when you advance.
The Element Pouch
Craft an Element Pouch and then fill it by right-clicking a valid elemental source block:
- Water — any water source block.
- Fire — lava, fire, soul fire, torches, campfires, or magma blocks.
- Earth — dirt, sand, gravel, clay, or stone-type blocks.
- Air — right-click while under open sky (no block overhead) as an Airbender or Avatar.
The pouch becomes the filled variant matching your element.

The Bending Choice Scroll is given automatically — you do not craft it. Mount companion drops (Whisker, Claw, Scale) come from interacting with or defeating the corresponding entity.
Abilities And Mechanics
Element Move Lists (by sub-bending branch)
Waterbending — core water control, plus:
- Ice — Ice Shards, Ice Prison, Ice Wall, Ice Spear, Frost Nova, Ice Colossus, Glacier Surge
- Mist — Mist Cloud
- Healing — Healing Stream, Full Healing
- Bloodbending — Grip, Bind, Pulse Lock, Marionette (only usable on full-moon nights; Avatars may bloodbend any time)
Earthbending — core rock/earth control, plus:
- Lava — unlocked through practice; lava spikes and flows
- Metal — Metal Armor, Cable Pull, Metal Shards, Iron Bind, Metalbending, Metal Crush, and more (requires the stubborn trait or strong lineage)
- Sand — Sandbending moves (unlocked by standing on sand or reaching level 11)
- Seismic, Crystal, Mud — deeper sub-branches unlocked through progression
Firebending — core fire blasts plus:
- Lightning — high-cost, high-damage discharge moves
- Heat/Smoke/Combustion — area denial and sustained-burn abilities
Airbending — core wind manipulation plus:
- Suffocation/Vacuum — Vacuum Step, Vacuum Crush, Pressure Burst
- Sound — Sonic Pulse, Sonic Boom, Echo Sense, Vibration Cut
- Weather — storm and weather-shaping moves
- Air also provides innate mobility: Hop, Air Scooter, Evade Dash, Cyclone Lift, Extended Flight
The Avatar
Only one Avatar can exist per server at a time. Claim the Avatar role through the Bending Choice Scroll chooser when the slot is free. The Avatar gains:
- Access to all four elements and all sub-bending branches.
- Energybending and Spiritbending abilities.
- Avatar State — a 30-second powered form on a 3-minute cooldown that doubles all ability power and grants immunity to fire, lava, and fall damage.
- Bloodbending is available any time, regardless of moon phase.
When the Avatar dies, the server broadcasts that the Avatar slot is open again in the chooser UI.
Progression And Strategy
- Pick your element thoughtfully. Your choice lasts until death. Dying resets your element and bending state — you keep your character but start bending fresh.
- Invest in Chi management early. Low-level moves are cheap; save Chi for key moments rather than spamming.
- Level to unlock sub-bending. Branches like Metalbending, Lava, and high-tier sound/vacuum moves only open at specific levels. Read the Bending Guide Book to plan your path.
- Fill Element Pouches before heading into combat — they enable certain higher-tier interactions and crafting uses.
- Seek out companion creatures. A Badger Mole (Earthbenders) or Dragon (Firebenders) will gift their respective drops on first interaction, giving you rare materials without having to kill them.
- Aim for the Avatar role if you want the broadest toolkit, but remember it is a single shared slot — coordinate with your server community.
- Use the Bending Creative Tool (creative/op players only) to experiment with different elements and levels in a test environment before committing on a survival world.
