Whirlwind Melody

Quickstart

1. Obtain a jukebox and a Whirlwind disc. In Creative mode, the discs are in the Tools tab. You can also craft the starter Tuition by Don Toliver disc:

1. Place the jukebox and use the disc on it.
2. Stay near the jukebox to experience the song-specific cinematic overlay, particles, movement effects, and status effects. Nearby mobs may also be affected.
3. Let the concert play through, or drink a milk bucket to stop the performance. Milk clears the effects, stops the music, and removes the active Whirlwind disc from the jukebox without dropping it.
4. To keep the music but disable the personal gameplay and visual effects, use /whirlwind effect off. Re-enable them with /whirlwind effect on.

Overview

Whirlwind Melody turns each custom music disc into a cinematic jukebox performance. Every track has its own visual style, movement pattern, particle effects, and gameplay behavior.

The effects follow the jukebox rather than the player. They reach a broad area around the playing jukebox, allowing multiple players and nearby mobs to join the performance. Each disc is a single-item rare music disc with a persistent glint.

How To Use

Starting a performance

1. Place a vanilla jukebox.
2. Hold a Whirlwind disc.
3. Use the disc on the jukebox.
4. Remain in the area while the track plays.

The jukebox plays the selected song through the normal music-disc system. Starting a new Whirlwind track replaces any active Whirlwind performance at that jukebox.

During a performance

Players near the jukebox may experience:

• Gentle or forceful movement in the direction chosen by the song.
• Spinning or rhythmic body rotation.
• Slow Falling for safer landings.
• Sky-color changes and cinematic HUD overlays.
• Track-specific status effects and particles.
• Effects applied to nearby mobs, including levitation-like floating, swirling, or song-specific movement.

Right-clicking a jukebox that contains an active Whirlwind disc does not eject the disc. To stop the performance intentionally, drink milk.

Disabling effects

Use these commands if you want to listen without the cinematic gameplay effects:

• /whirlwind effect off — disables Whirlwind effects for you and clears your current Whirlwind effects. The music continues normally.
• /whirlwind effect on — enables the effects again for you.

The setting is personal, so other players can continue experiencing the performance.

Crafting And Obtaining

Crafting recipes

The recipe book unlocks most recipes when you enter a world. The remaining recipes unlock when you obtain their special ingredient.

Recipe unlock conditions:

• Collateral unlocks when you obtain a gold ingot.
• Our Cafes unlocks when you obtain cocoa beans.
• Fish In The Water unlocks when you obtain a tropical fish.
• The other craftable discs unlock when you join a world.

Creative mode

All 12 discs are available in the Tools item group, including Control by Solven, which has no crafting recipe.

To obtain Control by Solven with a command:

Chest loot

The 11 craftable Whirlwind discs can also appear as rare loot in:

• Dungeon chests
• Abandoned mineshaft chests

Each eligible chest has a small chance to contain one of these discs. Control by Solven is not included in this chest loot pool.

Abilities And Mechanics

Song-specific effects

The disc determines the entire performance profile. Replacing the disc changes the music, visual treatment, movement, particles, and status effects.

• Tuition provides the broadest classic whirlwind behavior, including spinning players, upward motion, and effects on nearby mobs.
• Rendezvous adds smooth, beat-based camera drifting after the opening section.
• Faster increases the energy of the movement and particle show.
• Castles is the least disruptive track: its focus is the cinematic screen treatment and a delayed upward lift rather than mob chaos.
• Flash of A Light uses bright strobing and light-based visual effects.
• Arcade Heart gives the player angular, retro-style rotations and arcade-themed particles.
• Record Player applies a tape-warp visual style with rhythmic body movement.
• Only Me creates a spotlight-like presentation and can produce unusual nearby-mob effects, including frogs.
• Collateral moves players through timed circular and vertical patterns.
• Our Cafes uses warm visual transitions and rhythmic shutter effects instead of forcing camera FOV changes.
• Fish In The Water grants Water Breathing, briefly darkens the opening, strongly slows players during much of the track, and makes nearby mobs float with bubbles and dolphin particles.
• Control grants Night Vision, adds Jump Boost during selected sections, and surrounds the jukebox with flame, electric spark, end-rod, and witch particles.

Range and safety

The performance affects players and mobs across a large loaded area around the jukebox. The active song continuously refreshes its temporary effects while it plays.

Most performances provide Slow Falling to help prevent dangerous landings after a lift or movement sequence. Drinking milk clears the performance effects and safely ends the active Whirlwind sequence.

Progression And Strategy

• Start with Tuition to learn the basic whirlwind movement before trying more specialized tracks.
• Build a spacious concert area around the jukebox. Some songs move players, spin them, or lift them into the air.
• Use glass, colored lighting, particles, and elevated platforms to complement the track-specific visual treatment.
• Keep milk nearby when testing a song in a crowded base or around valuable builds.
• Use /whirlwind effect off when you want the soundtrack without movement, status effects, or screen overlays.
• For multiplayer concerts, place the jukebox in an open area so several players and nearby mobs can experience the same performance.
• Try Fish In The Water near a pool or aquarium, Our Cafes in a decorated cafe, and Castles in a large scenic build to match the atmosphere of each track.
