Water Bar

v3MC Java 26.1

Description

Adds a persistent hydration system with a 10-slot blue water bar on the HUD that displays half-water increments alongside health and hunger; water drains by 0.5 every 55 seconds when you are out of water and refills by 0.5 every second while you are submerged, with levels saved and kept in sync on the server for multiplayer. If your water bar reaches zero, dehydration now deals damage twice as fast—every 10 game ticks (half a second)—in Survival, Hardcore, and Adventure modes until your hydration rises above zero or you die, and the dehydration damage timer is preserved across saves. The water bar is hidden in Creative mode and there are no new controls or commands—just monitor and manage the meter while exploring, swimming, or diving.

Mod Wiki

Water Bar

Quickstart

Install the mod and load a Survival, Hardcore, or Adventure world. A row of 10 blue slots appears on your HUD just above the hotbar, to the right of the health bar — this is your water bar. It starts full. No crafting, items, or commands are needed.

  • Watch the bar drain — it loses half a unit (one half-slot) every 55 seconds while you are not submerged.
  • Refill it by jumping into water and staying fully submerged — you gain half a unit every 1 second underwater.
  • Don't let it hit zero — at empty, you take damage every half-second until you rehydrate or die.

Overview

Water Bar adds a persistent hydration mechanic to Minecraft. Alongside health and hunger, you now manage a third survival resource: your water level. The bar is always visible in Survival, Hardcore, and Adventure modes, and is hidden in Creative mode. Your water level is saved with your character and kept in sync in multiplayer.

What It Adds

FeatureDetails
Water Bar HUD10 blue slots, each representing 1 unit (displayed in half-unit increments); shown above the hotbar
Passive drain−0.5 water every 55 seconds while out of water
Underwater refill+0.5 water every 1 second while fully submerged
Dehydration damage1 HP (half a heart) every 10 game ticks (½ second) when water bar is empty
Saved stateWater level and all internal timers persist across saves and server reconnects

How To Use

There are no new items, blocks, or commands. Managing your hydration is entirely passive:

  1. Monitor the bar — keep an eye on the blue slots in the lower-centre of your HUD.
  2. Plan swims and dives — any time you are fully underwater, your bar refills. Rivers, oceans, lakes, and even flooded caves all count.
  3. Avoid long dry stretches — every 55 seconds out of water costs you half a slot. A full bar gives you roughly 18 minutes of dry time before dehydration begins.
  4. React to dehydration fast — once the bar empties, you take half a heart of damage every half-second. Find water immediately.

Abilities And Mechanics

Drain Rate

Your water level decreases by 0.5 every 55 seconds whenever you are not submerged. This includes being on land, in the air, in boats, or standing in shallow water (not fully submerged).

Refill Rate

Being fully underwater pauses draining and instead adds 0.5 water per second. Staying submerged is the only way to recover hydration.

Dehydration Damage

When your water bar reaches zero:

  • You receive 1 damage (½ heart) every 10 game ticks — that is twice per second.
  • Damage uses the starvation damage type (bypasses armour the same way hunger damage does).
  • Damage continues until your water level rises above zero or you die.
  • The damage timer is saved with your game, so logging out and back in does not reset the countdown.

Mode Behaviour

  • Survival, Hardcore, Adventure: Water bar is active and all mechanics apply.
  • Creative / Spectator: Water bar is hidden and all timers are paused — no drain, no damage.

Progression And Strategy

  • Early game: Stay near water sources. Rivers and shallow coastlines let you dip under whenever needed.
  • Caves and deserts: These are the most dangerous biomes for hydration. Carry a plan — find underground lakes or bring a water bucket to create a temporary pool.
  • Underwater bases: Being submerged constantly keeps your bar topped up, making ocean monuments and underwater builds surprisingly safe for hydration.
  • Long overland travel: Your full bar lasts about 18 minutes on land. For longer trips, find rivers to cross or detour through to refill.
  • Emergency refill: Even a brief full submersion (1–2 seconds) restores a small amount, which is enough to stop dehydration damage and buy time.
