Overview
The Voidstorm Axe is a netherite-tier weapon and tool that combines heavy melee power with a ranged lightning ability. It hits hard in close quarters and can strike distant targets with a bolt of lightning, setting them on fire and dealing blast damage — all with no cooldown.
What It Adds
| Item | Type | Damage | Special |
|---|
| Voidstorm Axe | Weapon / Tool | 15 attack damage | Launches a lightning bolt on right-click |
The axe counts as an axe for all purposes — it can chop wood, strip logs, and disable shields just like a standard axe.
How To Use
Melee — Left Click
Swing the axe normally to deal 15 attack damage to enemies in front of you. This is among the highest base damage of any axe-type weapon, making it devastating in close combat.
Lightning Bolt — Right Click
Right-clicking fires an invisible ray up to 64 blocks in the direction you are looking. If the ray hits a block, a lightning bolt strikes that location, which:
- Deals damage to nearby mobs and players.
- Ignites targets and the surrounding area.
- Plays a custom void bolt sound.
There is no cooldown on the lightning ability, so you can fire as rapidly as you can click.
Crafting And Obtaining
The crafting recipe is automatically unlocked the moment you enter a world — no advancement or progression gate required. Gather the materials below and head to a crafting table.
Required materials:
- Obsidian — mined with a diamond or netherite pickaxe.
- Echo Shards — found in Ancient City chests in the Deep Dark.
- Blaze Rod — dropped by Blazes in Nether Fortresses.
The Voidstorm Axe also appears in the Combat tab of the Creative inventory.
Abilities And Mechanics
- Attack Damage: 15 — significantly higher than a netherite axe's base damage.
- Tool Type: Axe — mines logs and wood-tier blocks, strips logs when used on them, and disables shields on hit.
- Lightning Bolt Range: 64 blocks, raycast in the exact direction your crosshair points.
- Lightning on Hit: Strikes the surface of the first block in its path; if no block is within 64 blocks, nothing happens.
- Fire: Lightning bolts naturally ignite the ground and mobs they hit.
- No Cooldown: The right-click ability can be triggered repeatedly with no delay.
- Sound: Each bolt fires with a unique void bolt sound effect.
- Stack Size: 1 (does not stack).
Progression And Strategy
- Gather Echo Shards from Ancient Cities early — this is usually the hardest ingredient to obtain.
- The 15-damage melee swing one-shots or two-shots most overworld mobs, making it excellent for both farming and combat.
- Use right-click to soften up groups of mobs before charging in, or to ignite targets at range before they can close the distance.
- Lightning bolts can convert pigs into Zombie Piglin and creepers into Charged Creepers — use this intentionally to farm resources or create powerful mob variants for your own purposes.
- Because there is no cooldown, sustained rapid right-clicking in a crowd can chain-lightning multiple surface targets in quick succession.
