Quickstart

1. Load into a world with at least one village.
2. Spend time near the village — roughly a 3% chance exists that a ??? will appear among the ordinary villagers.
3. Alternatively, grab the ??? Spawn Egg from the Spawn Eggs creative tab and right-click any surface to summon one instantly.
4. Once you spot it, try looking directly at it from within 32 blocks — and see what happens.

Overview

Vanishing Villager adds a single unsettling mob to villages: a silent, mirror-image villager known only as ???. It wanders quietly among ordinary villagers, blending in at a glance — until you notice something is off. It makes no ambient sounds, cannot be traded with, and has one defining behaviour: it vanishes the moment you look at it.

How To Use

Finding One Naturally

The ??? spawns automatically in villages while you are nearby, provided at least three ordinary villagers are present. Only one can exist per village region at a time, and the chance of it appearing on any given check is about 3%. You may need to visit several villages or wait a while before one appears.

Summoning with the Spawn Egg

Use the ??? Spawn Egg from the Spawn Eggs creative tab to place one anywhere, immediately.

Abilities And Mechanics

The Stare

When you are within 48 blocks, the ??? locks its entire body — not just its head — onto you, tracking your position with an unblinking gaze. This silent attention is its warning sign.

Vanishing

If you get within 32 blocks and have a clear, unobstructed line of sight to it (roughly within 49° of your direct look direction), the ??? plays a creepy cave-like sound and instantly disappears. This happens the moment any visible player meets that condition.

Invisibility Bypass

The ??? completely ignores invisible players. If you are invisible, it will not stare at you, and your gaze will not trigger its vanishing. With no visible players nearby at all, it simply wanders around as if it were a normal villager.

Appearance

The ??? uses a mirrored villager model with a custom eerie texture — it looks like a villager reflected backwards, which can make it hard to identify at first glance.

No Interaction

It cannot be traded with, makes no sounds of its own, and does not fight back or flee.

Progression And Strategy

• Observe from a distance first. Stay beyond 32 blocks to watch it stare at you without triggering its escape.
• Use invisibility potions if you want to observe it up close or examine it without it vanishing.
• Spawn Egg for testing: Use the ??? Spawn Egg in creative mode to experiment with the sightline and range mechanics safely.
• Because only one ??? can inhabit a given village region at a time, if it vanishes you will need to wait for the next spawn check (roughly every 10 seconds) for a chance at another — or simply use the spawn egg.
