Tunnel Vision

Quickstart

1. Obtain the Tunnel Vision item by crafting it or using the command below:

   /give @s tunnel-vision-j7gbjtke:tunnel_vision_j7gbjtke
   

   To craft it, use six glass and one stick:

1. Keep the item anywhere in your inventory. You do not need to hold or equip it.
2. Hold the Focus (Tunnel Vision) key to activate the zoom. The default key is ` (grave accent).
3. While focusing, use the mouse wheel to adjust magnification. Scrolling upward increases the zoom; scrolling downward reduces it.
4. Release the Focus key to stop. Removing Tunnel Vision from your inventory immediately disables the ability.

You can change the Focus key in Options → Controls under the Tunnel Vision category.

Overview

Tunnel Vision is a smooth, adjustable focusing tool for observing distant locations, mobs, and details. Focus gradually rather than switching instantly, and fine-tune the magnification while the ability is active.

The item has a magical glint and works from any inventory slot.

What It Adds

• Tunnel Vision item — A single item that enables the focusing ability.
• Adjustable magnification — Mouse-wheel controls let you choose how far to zoom.
• Smooth transitions — Zooming in, zooming out, and changing magnification interpolate smoothly.
• Focus reticle — A dedicated reticle appears while focusing.
• Focus and strain feedback — HUD meters show your current focus state and rising strain.
• Immersive visual effects — A soft vignette, dimming at high magnification, and top-and-bottom squeeze shading emphasize extreme focus.
• Over-focus danger — Holding very high magnification for too long can cause Tunnel Vision damage.

How To Use

Starting Focus

Hold the configured Focus key while Tunnel Vision is anywhere in your inventory. The view smoothly narrows toward the current magnification, and the focus HUD appears near the bottom of the screen.

The item does not need to be selected on the hotbar, placed in your main hand, or equipped.

Adjusting Magnification

Scroll while actively focusing to fine-tune the zoom:

• Scroll up to deepen magnification.
• Scroll down to pull back.
• The adjustment is smooth rather than instantaneous.
• Scrolling does not reset the amount of time you have been focusing.

The HUD displays the current magnification as a percentage. Focus begins at approximately 35% by default.

Ending Focus

Release the Focus key to smoothly return to normal vision. Moving Tunnel Vision out of your inventory also ends focus, even if the Focus key is still held.

Crafting And Obtaining

Tunnel Vision is available in the Tools creative inventory tab. In Survival, craft it with six glass and one stick:

Abilities And Mechanics

Focus HUD

While focused, the screen displays:

• A focus reticle centered on your view.
• A focus or zoom meter showing your current magnification.
• A strain meter that becomes more important at dangerous zoom levels.
• A vignette that becomes stronger as focus and strain build.

Strain And Damage

Very high magnification begins to become dangerous at approximately 68% zoom. After about seven seconds at or above this level:

• The strain meter rises.
• The overlay becomes more intense.
• Tunnel Vision damage can begin at regular intervals.
• Damage becomes more severe with longer over-focus and greater magnification.

Lower magnification remains safe for extended observation. Release focus before the strain becomes dangerous to avoid damage.

After-Effects

If you overextend your focus at dangerous magnification, releasing the key can leave a temporary blur over the screen. The blur lasts longer when you focus beyond the safe period.

Field of View

Tunnel Vision applies its zoom from your configured Minecraft FOV, allowing the focused view to behave consistently with your normal display settings.

Progression And Strategy

• Start at the default magnification and increase it gradually when looking for distant details.
• Use the focus HUD to monitor both magnification and strain.
• For long-distance scouting, use lower or moderate zoom rather than holding maximum magnification.
• If the strain meter starts rising, scroll down or release the Focus key.
• Keep the item in your inventory rather than dedicating a hotbar slot to it.
• Rebind the Focus key if the default ` key is inconvenient.
