Quickstart

1. Open your crafting table — the recipe is unlocked automatically when you join the world.
2. Craft the Torchbeam Flashlight:

1. Hold the flashlight in your main hand or off-hand.
2. Right-click (in the air or on a block) to toggle it on.
3. Point your crosshair at a dark area — a focused beam of light extends up to 20 blocks straight ahead of you instantly.

Overview

The Torchbeam Flashlight is a single, stackable-to-one handheld tool that casts a narrow beam of consistent light directly along your line of sight. Unlike placed torches, the beam moves with you as you look around and vanishes the moment you swap the item away, making it a powerful but situational light source for exploration.

What It Adds

How To Use

• Toggle on/off: Right-click while holding the flashlight in either hand. This works whether you click in the air or directly on a block.
• Action-bar feedback: A brief "Flashlight on" or "Flashlight off" message appears above your hotbar each time you toggle.
• Tooltip status: Hover over the item in your inventory to see Light: ON (green) or Light: OFF (red), plus a reminder of the right-click control and the 20-block range.
• Putting it away: The beam disappears immediately when the flashlight leaves your hands (hotbar swap, inventory, etc.). The on/off state is saved to the item, so switching back restores it to whatever state you left it in.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Beam shape: A straight ray starts one block in front of your eyes and reaches up to 20 blocks along your exact look direction.
• Consistent brightness: Every block along the beam receives the same light level (level 10), so the far end is just as bright as the near end.
• Beam termination: The beam stops as soon as it hits any solid, non-air block. Transparent light blocks within the beam do not interrupt it.
• No permanent light: All light the flashlight places is removed the instant you stop holding it or turn it off — nothing is left behind in the world.
• Dual-hand support: The flashlight works identically in your main hand or off-hand.

Progression And Strategy

• Early exploration: The flashlight requires only common materials (iron, stick, torch, glass), making it accessible soon after you establish a basic iron supply.
• Caving: Point the beam down corridors before entering to reveal mob positions without placing torches.
• Off-hand use: Keep a weapon or tool in your main hand and the flashlight in your off-hand so you can fight and illuminate simultaneously.
• Targeted lighting: Because the beam stops at the first solid block, it will not accidentally light up areas behind walls — useful for stealthy or controlled illumination.
• State persistence: If you turn the flashlight off before storing it in a chest and later retrieve it, it remains off until you right-click again, saving you from accidental light reveals.
